I am really at the end of my tether. My VM phone has been down
for three days again, and they can't tell me when it will be fixed. As these is
my my busiest sales week of the year...it is complete disaster for me
...financially !

The engineer told me a lot of people in my area are affected due to old cables,
that VM don't want to pay to
replace. I find this appalling. No wonder I have so may problems. Apparently we are in the middle of a blackspot due to a equipment that needs updating. I have
been told his several times, and yet VM do nothing about it.

In the summer my landline was down for a whole month, due a simple
fault that was incorrectly identified by a useless engineer. It caused me many
problems as I use this line for my business

I cannot afford to run my business with a VMphoneline anymore. I simply do not have the time to sit
for hours being passed from one monkey to another, paying 50p per minute
because VM are too mean to offer a landline helpline number forcing customers
to use their mobile nos to ring premium “helpline”
number. How is paying 50p per minute to get information about your out of
action phone line, helpful to anyone ?

Anyone else been having this problem. ?

Gooners luv the Railway pub at FP but it is now sold to a coffee shop opening May. Like we need another Starbucks in London ! Extra flats going on top with a penthouse roof garden watching the trains...Big shame as it is always a good venue for a pre and post match pint or five.

The Railway is moving to another pub venue locally so the Gooner party spirit will live on but sadly not close to the station. Get ready for a mad opening party tho.

Here is part of an email I received from the local Lib Dem Councillor about homelessness in the Stroud Green Ward:

Hi. I'm one of the local councillors who represents Stroud Green. A few weeks ago you spoke to a colleague of mine who was collecting petition signatures on Florence Road about your concerns about drug dealing nearby - and about the homeless woman who has sleeping and setting fires in the area.

Thanks for raising these concerns with me. I've alerted the local community police to this intelligence and the Council's anti-social behaviour team. I've given them your contact details in case they want to get in touch - I hope this is ok. There is a local policing meeting soon and I will raise these issues there too.

A good number of local residents have raised concerns about the homeless woman Sally who often takes drugs, lights fires and sleeps under the arches of the Parkland Walk. Over the last few months I have been battling to get help for her - and action to stop her anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood. Sally is a client of Islington mental health services as she is from Islington and I'm told she has a place in a hostel at Angel. I have been lobbying Islington hard to intervene more - however I'm told she refuses help and the social workers do not believe she is ill enough for them to take her to hospital against her will.

The situation is very frustrating as she is incredibly vulnerable - so any evidence of her behaviour is very helpful in demonstrating she needs help. Please do let me know if you see her doing anything that you think would help make this case.

If you have any information to add please email him on richard.wilson@haringeylibdems.org or tel 02083417052

Transition Finsbury Park has recently helped get some lottery money for the Manor House area. Lots of the work is targeted at that area but there are some things Stroud Greeners will definitely enjoy. http://www.manorhousepact.org.uk/
1) FESTIVAL this will be in September to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the New River and will take place in Finsbury Park. Anyone wanting to get involved, please email "sarahape" at "gmail" dot "com" (sorry, just trying to confuse the spambots there!)
2) TRAINING: Permaculture Intros. Only £50/£20 or free if you volunteer with us. Next one is 18th & 19th May; Creating A Forest Garden 20 week accredited course. Again, you can pay by volunteering; Plant Propagation - happening later this year. Also accredited. More info here: www.ediblelandscapeslondon.org.uk/training
3) MEALS using food that would otherwise be wasted. Standard of cooking has been amazing. Next on is 10th May. Just turn up and help with the cooking (10) or the eating (12). Kind of a replacement for what Food Cycle was doing at Mind in Haringey. http://www.transitionfinsburypark.org.uk/PACTmeals
4) WALKS free foraging and wildlife walks along the New River. Second Sunday of the month, starting at 2, meet outside the Castle Climbing Centre. In partnership with London Wildlife Trust. http://www.transitionfinsburypark.org.uk/PACTwalks
There's other things as well, but these are the bits I know about.

I know, I know. There are more pizza discussions on here than there are people, but I just wanted to add another.

Opera Pizza down on Hornsey Road.

We've been in love with it for a while, but last time we were in there it felt sadly quiet and underused, so thought I should say something on here.

It truly is beautiful pizza. Thin and tasty bases, the ingredients feel fresh and so tasty and their flavour combos are great (the fig and gorgonzola pizza makes me want to cry, it's so good) but most of all, they are the sweetest couple you are ever likely to meet. I feel guilty daily that they left their native Italy, to come here and suffer this stupid weather and even stupider downward spiralling austerity.

So yes. Has anyone else tried them? (I know it's a bit of a walk from mainland SG, but it's worth it I swear) Please give them a go, as I don't want to lose them!

http://www.operapizzashop.co.uk/

Did anyone else get hit by this today? My electricity supply went out at about 6 am, and I left the house with it still off around 8.30 (no shower, no coffee, not a good start to the day). When I got back around 7 pm the various electrical timepieces suggested it had stayed off till about 4 in the afternoon. I don't think it was just me but would be interested to know!

After 14 long years I'm off to the other side of the tracks on Harringay ladder, so you're not getting rid of me that easily. Still available for catsitting, babysitting, boozing, knitting etc. New place is mostly unfurnished so if anyone is getting rid of any furniture etc over the next few weeks, let me know and I'll gladly make use of it!

I received an email about this - no idea why as I'm not a breeder but thought I'd share on here. Sounds like it could be a good thing...

Will you take part in a focus group about an exciting new service that Women Like Us is planning for Haringey women?

Women Like Us is planning to launch a new local careers service in
Haringey to help mothers back to work. We are keen to make sure that it
works for local mums so we want to hear what you think about our ideas.

The focus group will be a friendly, relaxed conversation amongst a small group of mothers from Haringey. It will take place on Thursday 25th April at 10.15am, at a location in the borough a few minutes walk from Seven Sisters tube station. It will last for one hour and we will be offering a £10 voucher to everyone attending as a thank you for your time.

To take part in the focus group you must be a mother who is either
looking for work, or already has a job (whether part time or full time).

If you’d like to take part, please email Kelly Walsh at our research partners, The Community Development Foundation. Email Kelly.Walsh@cdf.org.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 23rd April.

Many thanks

I'd like to recommend this local garage. They may be called Hornsey Motor Services but they are located in the heart of Stroud Green on Evershot Road.

They will see you at short notice, offer a super fast, efficient, professional service and are always polite and extremely helpful. Ali, the friendly owner, explains things clearly (and patiently) and, whenever possible, offers several solutions according to your budget. They are cheap, cheerful and utterly reliable.

It's great to be able to endorse a local service on this site and I highly recommend this excellent garage for all your motoring needs. :-)

On Tollington Park, north side, just before Fonthill crossroads (if you come at it from SGR) there is a tree wich has been encased in ice.

They had a burst water pipe, the water covered the tree and as it's been so cold the water has frozen solid around each branch and twig, it is dripping with icicles and it is beautiful.

It's one of the most amazing natural wonders, just magical. Please go and have a look before it melts - you'll be glad you did.

We took some photos, not sure how well they'll have come out in the dark but we'll try to post them. Now...go and look at the magical tree!
