My partner and I are renting at the moment, but we've got a decent deposit saved up and are considering buying a flat in the next few months. We are first-time buyers, complete novices and terrified. Can anyone recommend a friendly, local mortgage advisor?

I know the brokers who work for The Motley Fool. They're fee-free and have won lots of awards.

I think you have to pay a fee for advice with John Charcol.

Yes, the London & Country people are very good -- I think it is they that partner with Motley Fool. They also come recommended by Martin Lewis, the moneysavingexpert.com, whose advice is as good as his delivery is annoying.
