Platform - Hornsey Baths theatre and festival

edited July 2011 in Local discussion
While queuing for parking vouchers the other day I saw a leaflet about "Islington's very first Platform Festival, a two week celebration of youth arts featuring original works created with, by and for young people aged 13-19. [...] the festival takes place all over Islington and marks the launch of the new Platform youth hub in Hornsey Road N7." There's a lot in it, but the SG relevant headlines are: The old Hornsey Road baths building now has a youth-led theatre space, called Platform. There'll be a promenading dance and theatre performance starting in Andover square at 7pm on the 22nd and 23rd and ending up in the Platform. On Sunday 24th between 2 and 5 there's a tea dance at Platform and they're asking people to dance and help decorate the crockery On Tuesday 26th at 7:30, again at Platform, there's this: "Transforming Buildings explores and celebrates the story of two historic buildings in Islington - Hornsey Road Baths, a former baths, washhouse, and swimming pool opened 1892; and White Lion Centre, a former Victorian School and latterly a youth centre opened 1875 - as they re-launch as new youth hubs developed by young people for Islington in 2011. Young people and older members of the community have worked together to investigate their history and to collect and interpret stories and memories of the role they have played in the community for over 100 years. This event shares these stories through magical site specific performances, films and art works which will remain as a permanent legacy in the new centres." It's free, you book by going here: http://www.platformislington.org.uk/ and there's a ton more stuff going on, especially for teenagers.
