I think it's the great Kraken rising up from the depths to signal the end of days.

According to this new history book, the name Stroud Green means 'watery bog' or 'pestilental miasma seeping from soggy marsh' in olde English - or someting like that. So it's perfectly natural.

Kraken must be very big and/or hungry because he's surfacing outside Nando's now too :S

Thames Water told me they are looking at it, which is progress of a sort. (Perhaps to the skilled eye one puddle looks much more different than another puddle?)

A quick update - as fixing this requires digging up a busy road, Thames Water have said they've got to sort things with TfL/the council and so it may be some time before the digging happens.
