Blackstock Road: Festival of the Senses

edited August 2008 in Local discussion
Just picked up a leaflet for this. This was all I could find about it online: <http://www.virtualfestivals.com/festival-of-the-senses/>; Whilst according to this blog, <http://brownswoodcouncillors.blogspot.com/>, it's a 'sorry we smashed up your street' party run by the council.

Taking the liberty of re-posting below a notice on a different local forum. Hannah Banjo - great name.

    <i>Blackstock Road

    `Festival Of The Senses'

    Sunday, August 10th, 2008 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm

On Sunday, August 10th, 2008, Blackstock Road, N4 will hold a
`Festival Of The Senses' where you can come see, hear, taste and feel
the delights of Blackstock Road. It will be a day where we hope locals
will come along and celebrate this diverse and unique area and all it
    has to offer.

Blackstock Road businesses are trying to shake off the areas negative
perception with the help of FinFuture. The street is alive with many
different foods, drinks and shops that service local residents,
visitors and commuters on a daily basis. This event is the start of
many positive changes that we hope to make in an attempt to increase
    pride in the area.

Many steps have been taken to improve Blackstock Road since the raids.
This festival is an opportunity to get people to come out, and meet
the people in their area while they enjoy all the festival has to offer.

There will be live music, samples of food to try, stalls, a children's
area and fun for the whole family.

This is a street festival so the road will be closed from Rock Street
to 52 Blackstock Road , which will allow people to walk freely without
    worrying about traffic.

This is an event that we want to use to promote positivity in the area
and welcome all corners of the community to come together. Please come
along and if you are not able to, please tell your family and friends
to come down for a day we hope everyone will enjoy.

We know some people may have concerns about noise, litter, etc. but we
will work together to make sure that we cause as little disturbance as
we can for anyone worried about such an event. It's just one day so
please be supportive and help us make this an event we can all be
    proud of.

We have a short time to organise this festival and it is vital that we
have your input so if you would like to get involved in helping us
organise this, or if you want a stall or to perform, please contact
Hannah Banjo with your details and we will contact you. Email:

Did anyone go then, what was it like?

My friend went and said it was lovely. Lots of stuff for kids, great food and very well attended. She didnt have a bad word to say about it.

It is run by FinFirst or something sounding like that and I notice they have big new colourful offices near the Muslim Book Shop near the Mosque (cant remember if that is what the bookshop is called sorry).

I dont know anything abut that organisation - but the did a great job.
