cycle hazard - Hanley Road
  • Hi - this is a warning to all Stroud Greeners who cycle along Hanley Road of an evening. Last night at about 7.30 I was heading home from central London to Harringay and I was attacked by a gang of kids who ran in to the road en masse, forced me to slow down and then started yelling and throwing punches. The little sh*ts tried to pull me off my bike, and may well have succeeded had it not been for a kindly motorist who came up behind and scared them off. I later called the police, who said they would go up there, but this is the second time I've had trouble on Hanley Rd - a couple of years ago someone chucked a half-full drinks can at me - I got a nasty cut on the forehead. Has anyone else witnessed this type of thing there?
  • That's awful - I have warned my cycling boyfriend

The only problem we've had is someone throwing a half eaten parsnip at us pretty hard, probably from a car on Upper Tollington Park the other night. We were utterly bemused, so stopped and looked around, and someone in a car came back and waved at us???

Like the Neighbourhood watch newsletter says: keep em peeled!
  • Bloody hell. It's like the Wire.

    The Wire with parsnips.

  • An egg. Around midnight one evening last October: thrown at my taxi on Hanley Road. Bizarre.
  • I remember seeing PCS Team posters in Woody's last year, on the lead up to Halloweeen, saying that all the shops on Stroud Green Road were not to sell eggs or flour to under 18s!

  • a half-eaten parsnip?
  • Yup
    Raw, and half eaten.
Though I'm not sure what eats raw parsnips
  • Pigs. The French feed them to their pigs. No one in France knows about roast parsnips. They're mad, the French.
  • So we're hunting for French pig farmers with a grudge against cyclists living near Hanley Road.

    Shouldn't take long.

  • Not too long if we keep 'em peeled - our eyes and the parsnips
  • Slap them, they're French.

  • oooh - i do like a good 'snip, me (but I hasten to add, not raw).
  • Ammunition wasn’t bought from Woddies

Being inspired by Roasted Parsnip discussions I tried to buy some there last Sunday morning and they don’t have them
  • I thought it was rather early for P-snips.

    Am I alone?

  • I think it is too early - none at the market anyway.
Someone threw a grape at me today as I cycled home along Westbourne rd (N1) today. At least it's a seasonal item though.
  • Did you manage to catch it in your mouth?

  • It just happened again. Definitely grapes - green ones. I might lob an orange at them tomorrow as I cycle past.
