US Election
  • obama's 4% or so ahead in florida...
  • ok, i'm adding missouri and mississipi to my list of states that i don't want to visit. they are both full of poor people who would rather vote for a republican than a black man. that pretty much says it all.
  • obama's up 171 to 58 on the bbc site
  • wait, how did they just call michigan for obama? it still says mccain 52%, obama 46%.
  • less than 100 to go. is it a shewing? could he still lose or are the hard states in now?

  • Fox call Ohio for Obama. That's it!

  • FOX PREDICTS OBAMA TO WIN!

    bet that hurt

  • McCain has had his chips.

  • It's done on things more complicated than number-counting
  • @ unaesthetic - that is scary.

Dimbleby wins the night by saying "fox news is not good enough".

On that note, I have to sign off here for the evening - need sleep, will have tv on and hope to subconsciously hear anything too upsetting.

Night all and cross fingers for a Democratic President of the USA tomorrow.

  • Schama vs Bolton on the BBC - FIGHT!!!

  • John Bolton being obnoxious and repulsive. Who knew?

  • i adore simon schama. i want him to come over to my house and tell me stories.
  • John Bolton. What a prick.

If you wanted to see how John McCain lost, its because he had to carry the flag of a party that choose that unsanctimonious wanker as the chief diplomat.

Ohio goes to Barry O. Its all over.
  • obama listed as ahead in florida, north carolina, colorado... that's 51 more points...
  • Whoever ran the McCain campaign should now be hounded out of politics.

But then again, I doubt you could find that anyone was running it.

Palin, bad idea. And if John Boltoin says its a good idea, you know how bad that idea is.

Flipping from maverick, then Bush fan, then security, then economic ignorance, then terrorism... There was no coherent noise coming from McCain who's message was beaten by "Change", "Hope" and "Yes We Can".

Imagine that: having your campaign beaten by a quick game of scrabble.
  • The "real" John McCain would have been a pretty good bet for the election but they just went all out to appeal to the base (as that nice woman was saying when John Bolton got all nasty).

Hopefully they will continue to appeal to the lunatic fringe and leave everyone else alone.

  • Well, that was a lot less painful than the last two U.S. elections. Time for bed.

  • Fuck John Bolton
  • How dare he come on the BBC and demand a reporter gets fired for serious follow up questions.

    I;m writing to complain
  • Goodness me.

  • Bloody hell, it was busy on here last night - do you people not sleep?
@Wisteria53, my mum can vote in local elections and mayoral elections, are you sure you can't? maybe it's an EU thing.
  • I think it is an EU thing.

  • I double-checked with Haringey a few years ago when someone else thought I should be able to vote and they confirmed that "foreign nationals" are not eligible to vote in the UK. However, EU citizens CAN vote in local elections.

I have only paid US income tax once in the 20+ years I've lived here but have had to file tax returns there since they "caught" me out when I registered two of my children for US passports ("we notice madam that you haven't filed a tax return in the past 7 years").

  • Okay then, its all over and now my shoulder hurts.

So now his thread turns into: "What does an Obama presidency mean?"
  • or
"whats going to happen in America now?"
  • It's all downhill from here.
