Does anyone know of a newsagents (on Stroud Green Road or Hornsey Road?) which will deliver papers quite early in the morning, just south of Hanley Road? Thanks in advance
I'm in the market for a reliable telegram service. The couriers employed must have the best horses and be able to reach Birmingham on the fast turnpike within three days. I will not pay more than 2 and 6 for this.
Ideally based west of stroud green road.
Depending on which paper it is, some of the publishers organise early morning delivery in London which can be free with a subscription to the paper. The FT and Times both do this and it comes very early. The Independent are also at it. The Guardian may do, their web page has a vague promise of 80% coverage of the nation but they don't say whether it's free. You can even get the Wall Street Journal (US edition but printed in London) delivered.
I get mine from Meg's (the other newsagent on Ferme Pk rd). Good service but possibly not early enough for you - 7.30ish. I have no idea what it costs.
We've been using use Meg's on Ferme Park Road for about 10 years to deliver (probably another 10-15 years prior to that as well). In that time they've only failed to deliver a few times.
Signed up last week for a Guardian subscription which is supposed to give us vouchers for 1/3 off the cover price as well:

Meg's only "failing" was to sometimes give us The Times when there wasn't a Guardian available. If I wanted a Tory paper I'd prefer the Telegraph so I can at least justify it on the "I only read it only for the theatre/gardening sections " grounds.
Have just spoken to Meg's - for Saturday and Sunday delivery they charge £1.50 (in total) per week. If you get a paper delivered everyday they charge £2.50 in total per week. He also said you could use the 1/3 off vouchers from the Guardian but you'd have to come in every few weeks with them. We get Saturday and Sunday delivery so it would work out 50p cheaper for us per week to switch, plus the vouchers should save us even more! Thanks everyone for the tip.
I once saw someone paying their paper bill in Meg's and it was almost £100 on his credit card. I was frightened and cancelled my weekend delivery soon after, terrified I might one day end up in lots of paper trouble. I'm generally happier consuming less news.
Went into the old post office newsagents to pay my bill. turns out it's only £1 per week! So much cheaper than I thought. They said I could pay quaterly with vouchers.
I'm a journalist so I have to keep up with the news at the weekend and I'd rather do it while enjoying a lazy lie-in - so it's definitely worth it for me!

Not sure how far they will deliver but it costs £1 per delivery and the service is excellent, the papers are always there before we get out of bed.
