That annoying pothole by the bridge

Hello everyone, I've lived in N4 for about a year now and just found this lovely friendly site. I thought I'd use the opportunity to share two pointless tidbits...

I'm sure you've all been soaked by cars splashing through that bloody annoying pothole under the railway bridge - well, it looks like the council is dealing with it at last, after I reported the problem on their website. I never actually thought they'd bother - I was thrilled, in an unbelievably sad way.

Also, anyone noticed the pigeon carcass hanging from the other bridge? Once you see it, it haunts you forever.

I too am surprised that the council have actually done something about it, there's also another cheeky pothole on the same side of the road near the big yellow car wash.

Does anyone have a link to this magical site where I can report potholes and get them fixed?

I had seen the pigeon - I can't believe it's still there. I noticed it over a month ago when it was covered in feathers and I thought it was a live bird, trapped in a strange way. It must look disgusting now! urgh.

Poor sod pigeon was hanging from under one of the railway bridges on SGR, on the right hand side as you walk towards seven sisters road (is it seven sisters at the bottom there? Never know the names of roads despite living in Islington for over 12 years now!)

I keep having to walk that way and decided I wouldnt look up to see it. So of course, yesterday, I kept glancing up and wondering what on earth it looked like and was that thing in the distance...

Then all of a sudden I was beneath the grotesque creature rubber necking it in horror. It is so vile. The poor thing. I wish someone would take it down. Basically I think its upside down and a load of feathers hanging down.

Urrgh, it is really disgusting and I dont want to walk there again to be frank, it looks like it could drop on someones head! I would avoid hesitating below it to be honest in case he fell down really quickly and bounced all over your face and its feathers went in your mouth and its fleas all over you hair like a big hair net!

Euurgh.

The water hole by the Big Yellow is not as you would think, a leak underneath, it is in fact quite a way away from where it surfaces. But where? That's the problem. It all started a few years ago with gas repairs. The B.Y. was the first hole that was sunk and then they gradually moved up Stroud Green Rd to the traffic lights. My personal opinion is that it's here where the water pipe was damaged and left unrepaired. Gravity of course dictates that water flows downhill and in this case it resurfaces at the next weak spot, ie, the first hole that was dug by the B.Y. where the soil has been disturbed. To locate and repair the pipe would mean digging up a long length of the road and as it's a major bus/commuter route the utilities and council alike are not too keen on this. But they definately need to get their act together as at the moment it seems that every 8 months or so someone has to come along and fix the road that's been damaged by water and heavy traffic and at the cost of the local taxpayers.

For those unfortunate enough to get a drenching from the pothole, you can console yourself with a wry chuckle at the wit of local vandals of the gas advert opposite.

On the pothole front, this is what Islington Council told me when I asked why there keep on being potholes and puddles at the Morris Place junction:

"I can confirm that Thames Water are currently investigating the cause of the leak that occurs at the location stated. This is a major investigation and has been escalated to sounding team whom are currently checking the water flow underground on the two 36inch trunk mains to ascertain what is causing the leak. This is a lengthy process but is the only way rather than switching off the water supply which would result in thousands of homes losing water as these mains serves a large area of North London.

"I am assured that Thames Water are taking the necessary steps to resolve this leak.

"The council has made safe again the pothole and I will contact Thames Water to request they inspect the site on a regular basis to ensure the carriageway is kept to a safe level."
