Just picked up on some earlier threads about the crossing at SGR/TP. You should see it at the school run! It rocks! Shame you only get 0.03 seconds to bloody well do it in....
I don't know whether it's behaviour to be encouraged along the SGR really.
It's probably fine for a lesser junction such as the Tollington Cross, but head on up to Fiveways and you're really pushed for time when crossing.
Fiveways is doable with a pushchair, though you do have to be confident and not get caught in a drain.
At Tollington you have plenty of time, even though the green man isn't green for very long.
The real issue is when you meet people coming from your right or left, as there is no obvious way to move. This can cause chaos if you don't watch out.
I have yet to try the Rock Street/Seven Sisters junction but might leave that one for a pro.
As the Tolly/SGR junction is my natural crossing going home I think I've been subliminally doing this for ages through my innate desire to avoid Nando's.
At least that huge pothole outside the Italian Deli/Estate agents has been filled. It had turned into a pond and I actually saw a seagull swimming in it a few weeks ago.
I think the Tollington cross roads should be SG+ (plus), like canal plus, or the Hub of Nando, or Property Corner, or Chip Smell crossing, or The Cross, or erm, I'll think of more later, I've got stuff to do.
To call it 5 dials I guess we would need to get a 5 sided sundial erected in the middle although the one at seven dials only actually has 6 so maybe we should have 4 in ours! How confusing is that ! 5 ways is quite descriptive.
Has any one seen the great Victorian picture of it in the Dairy ? It has great picture taken from Hanley Road looking towards the Larrick with the Horse buses to London lined up in the wider bit of the street on the side of the Larrick. Even has a diagonal raised path across the middle to avoid the horse muck etc so I guess the Victorian crossed diagonally
Yep the company I work for designed the new layout for Oxford Circus, apparently it started being built yesterday. They are going to rip out all the balustrades and guard railing and pull the existing crossings closer in so that it's much more convenient to cross.
If this link works you should be able to see a little animation thingy that we apparently "enthralled" our clients with!

In the past I've always called our Fiveways - Dairy Corner.
maybe they should pedestrianise the entirity of SGR
