Wow. Council must be desperate to get that unit filled. 3 big name supermarkets within 20m of each other - what a way to torture the independents.

Budgen's portrays itself as an independent and has most to lose from this. Greggs and Tescos are probably going for a different market. Nicolas and the little fruit and veg place probably aren't too pleased either.

Waitrose did a deal to take over some Woolies sites about a year ago, the one in Angel has been open for a while now.
Shame there's never been a Woolies in Stroud Green....

i'll still never understand why someone had an idea to put a waitrose in the middle of holloway road!

The Holloway Road one is linked to the John Lewis-owned dept store that was there a few years back. It's a nice branch.
A shame about them moving into Crouch End; I thought they might move into the Muswell Hill one.

The much-missed Jones Brothers. Which, interestingly enough, played an important role in convicting Dr Crippen (see [here](

Jones brothers was a part of teh John Lewis Group hence Waitrose. I wonder if it was the Holloway Rd outpost of the one at Sloane Square

I just wish there was a McDonalds in Crouch End. They do really nice deli stuff nowadays and it's cheap and convenient.
