I have deformed feet and I'm getting really sick of every new pair of shoes repeatedly stripping all the skin off the top of my right foot. Realise this isn't SG specific but has anyone ever had shoes made in london? Recommendations? How extortionate is it? Thanks! James PS I was really unsure if shoemaker was the right word? Wikipedia tells me the correct term is Cordwainer <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordwainer>; - which I never heard before in my life...

i met a shoemaker at a party. he was very handsome but not very interesting, he kept looking at my feet and telling me i was overpronating. his job was to carve the lasts and he'd done prince philip's ones. can't remember his company's name but i would guess they were extortionate. and boring.

There's a shoemaker/repairer in East Dulwich which I've been to for complicated repairs, called Merryfields, 42 Grove Vale, London SE22 8DY, 0208 693 1611‎. Don't think there's a website. Last year he quoted me £900 for a long pair of boots, so shoes must be less that half of that, although maybe it's the foot bit that's the most labour intensive. He's a sort of local artisan, not poncey. Think the business isn't doing well, so you might get them even cheaper now.

There is a place on Hornsey Road that makes shoes (at the bottom, near the DIY Centre). I would be very surprised if they were charging £900.

I have had shoes repaired there and they did a good job.
