Earlier this year I'm sure I read that the Rise Festival was to be reinstated. Today was to be the date. I've seen and heard nothing at all and clearly it isn't today. Did i just get the wrong end of a stick or is some version of Rise still alive?
There are now flyers posted around the park stating that Uprise will be taking place October 3rd, yet the website/twitter/myspace/facebook pages mention nothing about the new date or lineup.
Rise usually had a line-up which was brilliantly constructed to draw in people of different communities and colours and get them all singing along to music that they maybe didn't realise they might like. A line-up good enough that, in spite of the hectoring links by Stop the War Coalition arses and other such bores and useful idiots, I would generally go along. This one...not so much.
Does anyone know if you can take dogs in? I can't see anything that says you can't but I don't want to walk the pooch down there and not be allowed in.
Oh, I appreciate they weren't going to get international acts or anything under the new shoestring approach, but they could still have had a bit more variety. You don't necessarily need money to get good acts from a bunch of different scenes. This line-up is really homogenous; it looks like a bank holiday alldayer at Cargo rather than a serious stab at variety.
I turned up after the rain stopped. Looked like there was only a few hundred people there. Some good tunes though. Slightly pony though - the drinks choice was Carlsberg or Strongbow from a can...

Edit:
That should be Uprise of course but I'm not writing it in capital letters as I don't like to shout.
