More competitive than the current Porchetta Pappagone battle with Medi doing his Scrappy Doo on the sidelines. Could that happen?
Are we talking big chain name competitive? A la Pizza Express?
I sometimes get Pappagone's post. One that I didn't bother taking over was a Domino's voucher headed 'Hey, pizza lover!' and optimistically addressed to them...
Porchetta since at least the late nineties, Pappagone was not there when I first came down in, I think, summer 1998. And was only half its current breadth until 2004, 5, something like that.
New to the area and haven't tried the two well-talked-of places up the other end of SGR, but I very much like my pizza and I've been very, very impressed by the two I've had from Venezia.
Since I was away the older manager of Porchetta has gone. Always had a smile for me and others and as we were neighbours he always said 'hi' when we met on SGR. Never asked him his name though! Was it Giancarlo? Has he moved to another branch?
I meant to add that since I've been back on the road, I've only gone once to La Porchetta and once to La Papagone. I know that Papagone is cheaper but the pizza is better (especially the sauce) at Porchetta. I did prefer Porchetta's older more downbeat interior but now it's too modern and sterile Nice staff though!
Mystic - now that is a lovely town. Can't vouch for the pizzas at the eponymous store used in the film but if you are ever in Connecticut I would certainly find time to stroll round there.
