Ah OK, I did spot a higher number of transport police than usual on my way into the station. Including one on a pushbike outside the carwash (tho not a Boris bike).
Well according to that Police Crimes map there seemed to be 62 crimes around the station so I am not sure if he was there to say that was reduction on previous numbers or he is going to reduce the numbers in the future.
Early start to his re-election campaign so I guess you will see lots of claims from him about this kind of thing, as well as lot less station/ line closure due to engineering work as May next year gets close, along with some more boris bikes in new areas, wifi and mobile on small bits of the tube, banished bendy busses and more than one of the new routemaster.
Setting himself up to take over leading the LibCons from Cameron when they loose the next election
It's the busiest station outside Zone 1, isn't it? Or busiest interchange, perhaps (and I imagine having bus, rail and Underground all in one place may have been relevant).
Thanks for your comments. It's not me in the photo; Sgt Morrison is the Sergeant responsible for the Finsubry Park Hub Team, which covers both the Underground and mainline parts of the station.
I heard the Mayor arrived by bike, so maybe Finsbury was chosen as it is close to where he lives.
The crime website does not include offences on the railway; these are documented here: http://stats.btp.police.uk/

That figures. Islington is only a short fifteen minute Boris cycle shamble away.
