  Blimey that was quick! The chap says that if it doesn't have anything about sugarlumps in the lyrics or two Irish priests looking wistful in the video it's not a proper horse song. I appreciate that narrows the field a little.

  It doesn't really mention horses anywhere but I still think Jonathan Richman's Egyptian Reggae is the ultimate horse song.

  The Divine Comedy (aka Neil Hannon who wrote 'My Lovely Horse') also have the rather more Scott Walker 'The Dogs and the Horses'. Wonderful song.
