Wray Crescent Festival and Pavilion

The Wray Crescent Pavilion (the squat grey building by the cricket pitch) is sinking into the ground. It'll cost almost as much to fix as to rebuild and so there's a chance to replace it with something better, something with more uses than just a cricket changing room and that could be more of an asset of the park. The question then is, O StroudGreen.Org-ers, what would you want the pavilion to have? A cafe? A craft-making space? A cake sale place? A debating room? Or something entirely different? What should it look like? Would you be willing to help out with running and maintaining the new Pavilion? Or could you help fundraise? Do tell. I go to the Wray all the time, I have two small kids and it would be great to have a cafe, somewhere offering light snacks, water, fruit, cakes and a cup of tea! That would be wonderful. You could also run things there in the week like Jeremy doing his singing in the morning and book clubs!

I agree. It must surely be a cricket pavillion but with room enough inside/attached to it for other activities?

Whoever owns that place should definitely look at building something with a function room that can be hired out for kid's or adult's parties and other events - they'd make a mint if it was a nice room with good kitchen facilities, particularly if they were willing to invest in a sound system and lighting. There aren't many good venues for hire locally.

I think the basic layout suggested by the council today for a cricket pavilion but ensuring there is a basic kitchen, a secure storage area (we have had kit nicked), and a suitably sized room for other community uses when cricket is not being played. Laser quests are better suited to venues on main roads where they might get some footfall - I enjoyed them as a kid apart from the occasion when some lads attacked us with snooker cues at the Archway one.

@Macbreen, Jane Jacobs' line was that parks were safer the more uses they had - because there would be more people around at different times of day and so less chance of crime happening unobserved/unpunished. So a pleasant cafe' there might make it a safer space.

Ya think...sure there is some truth in the theory no doubt. Maybe a pleasant cafe on every street corner, the met and the government should push for more of them to make our streets and public spaces safer places.
