I would like to know what's going on also, since it sounds RIGHT outside my house.

    Oh, joy.
I didn't know about any murder on Sunday, either.
    Not good.

This will continue unless the police step in and take people out of the cycle. Do people feel that police presence has been greater in recent weeks? I only feel threatened if say i was in the wrong place at the wrong time, like Sparsholt Road this afternoon. The gang stuff makes very bad reading, but ultimately i'm not involved and they're not interested in me. I might get a slap for a phone at some point, but thats London.

It sounds as if it's kicking off up there. I have been hearing for some time of masked vigilante squads patrolling those estates in a white van, taking out drug dealers and smashing up crack houses. Pray to God it doesn't spill out into the rest of this peace-loving community.

Am I right that there was an armed robbery on SGR on Tuesday?

@ Brodiej I've definitely noticed an increased police prescence near Wray Crescent since the stabbing last week. 3 or 4 police cars were there yesterday and they took away at least two members of a gang of kids as they were walking towards the park. Later that evening there were around 10 officers doing (literally) a fingertip search of Tollington Place, checking in gardens, bins, skips etc. I don't feel personally threatened by any of this because these gangs are only interested in each other but it definitely creates a feeling of tension in the area and it's sad to see this kind of violence in SG.

@ Eliz. Ok thats good to know. I work out of town during the day so can't really guage anything. This will go away in time, i just wonder at what price.

  • The local press are reporting the Police saying the suggestions of a shooting were a false alarm. I'll try to confirm.

There is a hastily arranged meeting on the Andover estate tonight to brief local residents on recent events and the Police and Council's response. If people can't make this would it be helpful to arrange another meeting in the Tollington area?

The recent problems have been caused by a conflict between a group of young people in Islington (to call them a gang would be an exaggeration) and a gang from outside the borough.

There has been a lot of extra Police activity in the area as a result and the Council youth workers have spent a lot of time on the Crouch Hall Court estate and Wray Crescent. A lot of other work to solve these problems is going on as well that I can't go into detail about.

This work started after a spate of incidents two months to six weeks ago. This had then gone quiet for about three weeks and so we were hoping the worst was veer. However, in the last week things have kicked off again and even more Police and Council resources will be put in place to try to calm things down and then solve the problems.

Please let me know what further information people want and I'll do my best given the obvious need to keep a lot of the details of our response confidential.
  • I think a more local meeting would be good. Certainly reassuring to see more police out and about round Wray Crescent tonight...

Yes, great reporting .... as the comment points out, the headline states "gunshots fired", then the text reads...."no evidence of gunshots fired"... brilliant.

Perhaps they wrote it from this website, which started and developed in the same vein.
