restaurant with private room

I am organising a dinner for about ten people and am looking for a decent restaurant or gastropub with a private room. Any recommendations? It doesn't have to be local, or flashy.

The Wells in Hampstead and The Drapers Arms (off Upper St) both have lovely private dining rooms.

The St John in Farringdon - private room, and you order one or two dishes for each course for the whole table. Very nice indeed if you are a meat eater.

Rules in Covent Garden has amazing private rooms. It's probably really expensive, I've only ever been there with work.

If you're looking for North...I think Villiers Terrace in Crouch End have a private area they take bookings for.

I don't rate Villiers Terrace at all. It's properly overpriced and there are several much nicer places in Crouch End. It was better when it was The Alex.

I've always liked the Victoria Stakes at the foot of Muswell Hill. i think you can hire out their conservatory at the back, but it's a big space.

I've taken against the Villiers for numerous reasons. Tempted to drag the weaselly one out under the W7 on one occasion. I liked it when it was the Alex. The stools at the bar of the Villiers are, um, quite nice for ladies though.

Do you mean good for your back? I'd say it was other way round. They're like little saddles with an up turned lip at the front. Its the pub's only redeeming feature.

They are old tractor seats and can be dangerous for men. You have to be careful on your dismount.

Lat time I was in there I was on a date. I think the date may have gone a lot better if we sat at the bar rather than at one of the tables. Oh well!
