Best Mobile network for coverage in SG?

Hello People,

My mobile contract is up for renewal and I'm reluctantly going to leave O2 because I'm fed up of having no 3G coverage at home (Upper Tollington) or in anywhere in Stroud Green.

Does anyone know (iPhone users in particular) which network has the best coverage in the area? When I'm out and about my friends are happily zipping around with 5 bars of 3G coverage on Orange or Vodafone I think, while my phone crawls to a standstill with 1 bar of EDGE coverage or worse still that little iPhone circle of death...

I'm with O2. Until recently I only ever received 2 or 2.5g. In the last couple of weeks I now only ever seem to get 3 or 3.5g, and mostly the latter. Oddly my voice signal coverage on Mount View is often poor, despite being in sight of Ally Pally.

This might help you. It produces a map with where the base stations are by operator. Seems like there are around 40 or so base stations with a mile of WLM. <http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/search>;

Thanks for the map, it's interesting that the only close by mobile masts are on that block of flats on Seven Sisters Road and Ilex House. Explains why Orange and T-Mobile reception is good in our area and why O2 is poor (only one mast on the 7SR site).

Why specifically state the WLM? Are you trying to insinuate something? I don't care about reception in there, I use their free wi-fi!

No wonder my reception is sh** in the area. There's like 1 mast within a mile and it's at the edge of the map!

Just thought WLM is right in the centre of the area thats all. Orange and T Mobile are merging but keeping their brands as they have different Customer profiles. Part of the merger is to set up a Network Company which called Everything Everywhere. It means that both sets of customers have access to what was two separate networks ie more base stations for your phone to log onto! Seems a no brainer for around here, maybe you should use the map to check out some of the other locations you might heavily use the phone.

The Carphone Warehouse might be able to help you. When I bought a dongle recently they could check for me which one had the best coverage. Would that be the same for an iphone? I have yet to join the 21st century...

I get pretty good reception in SG with Orange. I have an HTC Desire, not an iPhone. The only really bad spot is in Tesco. Orange is really shit around the Russell Square area.

I have good reception on O2 iphone everywhere in SG apart from in my hall and my living room now. It was rubbish this time last year though. The signal drops completely in Tesco, but I think they all do, and from Crouch Hill station all the way to the top of the hill. No problems anywhere else.

I don't know if it's going to change at some point, but it's worth pointing out that (for now) if you're on Orange and in an area where it switches you to T-mobile, it doesn't seem to include internet (3g or otherwise) or at least not on my phone it doesn't. Rather annoying, really, esp when I found myself in South East London with basically no Orange coverage at all. SGR area seems fine for Orange, though.

I've recently switched from O2 to Orange and find things are a bit better round here with the Orange/T-mobile combo. Certainly fewer dropped calls.

I'm on Vodaphone and live off Oakfield road backing onto the railway line and get absolutely no 3G, and barely any signal whatever.

O2 seem to have fixed the Stapleton Hall Road/ Ferme Park Road black spot in recent weeks (new mast?), though I still can't tweet from inside Londis.

Dunno about 3 specifically, but generally at busy times you can expect much lower speeds than with broadband.

I agree, Vodaphone around the Lancaster Rd/Oakfield Rd area is poor unless yo are on the top floor!
