I've just been tipped off that Tescos on SGR are selling special Halloween Andrex! I will be making a special visit to get some this afternoon.

Sadly I am going to miss all the fun in SG this year as I am fulfilling an ambition of visiting the West Hollywood Halloween carnival (including spooky dog costume parade).
• edited 6:37PM
@JaneDoe I am unspeakably jealous. I've been to the Greenwich Village NY parade and it was fabulous!

@miss annie - Perhaps I will be inspired to start one for SG next year. I think a carnival and a costumed dog parade on SGR would go down a treat.

I didn’t realise that Halloween originated in Scotland/Ireland as I always thought it was American but it turns out they just commercialised it with things like Trick or Treat. There is an old game the single amongst you can play It is traditional Scottish form of divining one's future spouse is to carve an apple in one long strip, then toss the peel over one's shoulder. The peel is believed to land in the shape of the first letter of the future spouse's name. Unmarried women were told that if they sat in a darkened room and gazed into a mirror on Halloween night, the face of their future husband would appear in the mirror. However, if they were destined to die before marriage, a skull would appear. I can remember as a kid using Turnips for lanterns much more traditional than a pumpkin! Anyone got any other Halloween games to play ?

Just to clarify Old Dairy, is it Friday or Saturday? Everyone I know seems to have planned for Saturday as did I until I just re-read this thread. Is there anything Hallowe'eny anywhere on Saturday? Will be a bit pushed for getting all changed and dressed up after work on a Friday.

I'm shamelessly bumping this to the top in the hope that the Dairy or Stapleton will let us know if there are Hallowe'en events at the weekend. Both did parties on the Saturday lat year so fingers crossed!

@tosscat Do I get a gold star?

(use of/lack of apostrophe in Hallowe'en/Halloween entirely intentional)

Tom, you always get a gold star. By the way, I had my Silver Bullet VIP card stolen the other day, how do I go about cancelling it and getting a replacement?
• edited 6:37PM
Gee, thanks!

No probs re. your stolen card. You can email our lovely manager Yulli and he'll get another card lined up for you.

Very disappointed in the Dairy, nothing like last year's amazing Hallowe'en do. Only half a dozen people dressed up ( two of them were myself and my chap). The staff all made an effort but as it wasn't advertised in the pub or on the Dairy's website it was just like a normal quiet Friday. Bit of a shame as I was really looking forward to it.

Well, if anyone is interested in going out tonight there is the Silver Bullet - listed above, and the World's End are having a party with a (£50) prize for best Zombie. Lots of folk in fancy dress around tonight.

Hi Miss Annie

As always many thanks for your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that the night was not as good as last year. In answer to some of your comments.

We had been twittering about Halloween and there were posters internally and externally. I also put a blog on SG org about the night.

The night did not really get going until very late we were packed after 10.30, which is a sign of the times I am afraid !

Its also hard to make people dress up the only way would have been to charge for entrance for folks who didn't dress up, which I would not do.

The tarot card reader was on for almost 2 hours and went down a storm we also gave away free cocktails to customers who dressed up.

I promise to try harder next year

See you soon Adam

Hi Adam I was so excited about going as I'd had such a fabulous time last year that maybe anything would have been a disappointment! The free cocktails were nice, thank you. Anyway, the Dairy is still my favourite pub in SG. Miss A

Always good to get feedback, SG. org is always helpful to many businesses in the area.

In Consolation we are having a free Rum tasting next week on Wed 9th from 8pm.

Adam
