Pubs are nice. Good pubs are full of lots of different people, who rub along quite happily.<div><br></div><div>Sometimes, if a customer starts screaming at everyone and throwing his pints around, he makes the atmosphere unpleasant. So people leave the pub. Some people might try and have a word with him, to calm him down. After a while, he's asked to leave.</div><div><br></div><div>Normally, as the doorman moves him out, he screams something incomprehensible about his rights.</div><div><br></div><div>The long and short is I've banned a couple of people, and a couple more are on a very short rope. Inelegant, perhaps, but what do you do. </div><div><br></div><div>Also, the next person who mentions elites and class get banned. I'm done with that. Take it to commentisfree or your wherever else you choose to unload your poorly thought through political analysis.</div>

Good work Andy. Have you also removed that thread about rubbish in the park?<br><br>I remember reading it very late last night and was quite concerned that whoever is was who was ranting on seemed to know way too much about my life and movements for me to be comfortable with.<br>

Thanks Andy. It had become rather offputting and I have always enjoyed using the site very much. I stopped going to the WLM when I observed a regular turn over a table and throw a glass at his wife and the manager just told him to 'pipe down' then let him get on with it.<br><br>@missannie - I only experienced the Hacienda in it's last 18 monts or so and it was so grim, having since read books about the heyday, the place I visited was unrecognisable.<br>

Thanks @andy.<br><br>I woke up in the middle of the night Monday/Tuesday.<br><br>During subsequent drowsy musings I realised that not only did two or three of the protoganist characters in the recent deterioration of the discourse here seem to be one and the same person (cue questions about their motivation and more broadly the hopelessness of aspiring after a generally co-operative and altruistic approach to societal life at large), but also that I'd just had a nightmare in which it turned out both @andy and @Detritus were <i>also </i>that person's pseudonyms.<br><br>I experienced a sensation I last had when I read Auster's New York Trilogy - a sort of 'who's writing this for whom' minor wobble in the reality spectrum.<br><br>And then rational thought came knocking and I went back to sleep.<br><br>Tell me there's to be chess on a Tuesday? And you've got a jukebox with real 45s which inexplicably but charmingly reverts to playing 'Charly' by the Prodigy when it's got nothing better to do?<br>

On that note, there's probably a potentially great novel Nabokov could sadly never write about a message board that descends into anarchic troll-driven chaos, complete with repeat accusations that it's not what it used to be, which actually turns out to just be one person posting everything from the start.<br><br><br>

Well done. I'll carry on mostly dozing in the corner of this very pleasant pub now you've thrown the yobs out. Andy and David (haven't heard from him recently - perhaps he was a figment of Andy's imagination?), don't underestimate how valued this thing you created is. Wouldn't want a few anti-socials to kill it.
