Doctors

edited February 2008 in Local discussion
Hello, I'm new to the site and thought I'd use this opportunity to see if anyone can recommend a good doctor in the area? I've been to see the doctors at 157 Stroud Green Road but I'm really not happy there and as I've just found out I'm pregnant I really want to find a doctor i'll be happy with. Has anyone tried anyone else? Perhaps up in Crouch End? ANy help would be great. Thanks xxx

    Congratulations!

I would strike the Hornsey Rise practice off your list of possibles.

My wife (who is also pregnant) and I have just changed quacks. We're now with the clinic mid-way along Hanley Road. I've not yet had to go but my wife is very happy with the service.

You can't go to the Hanley Road practice if you live in Haringey though.

and we were pretty happy with the ante-natal care there.

the whittington midwives are very nice.

We are very happy with our GP Practice - the Vale Practice in Crouch End ( in the Clockhouse practice - note that there are two practices in the same building ) . We can usually get an appointment without to much trouble, the GPs and receptionists are friendly, the practice is clean, it's close to the W7 bus stop.

You can also during the pregnancy you can have a shared care system where you only deal with the hospital for scans etc all the other visits are with the GP.

Also when we've taken our son in with the latest bug going round, the GP has called us a day after / the afternoon after the appointment to check he's OK. I was amazed at the service.

I'm at the 157 medical practice, with Dr Nubi - I quite like him. He's always very friendly and seems to get things done for me. No experience with their ante-natal care though...
I did once have to see Dr Cookey, and I didn't like him one bit.

I saw Dr Cookey this morning and he's put me off using the clinic now!
I think I might try the Vale Practice in Crouch End...

    Many Congratulations

Apparently there is an internal National Health scoring system on GP Practices which is used to try and drag up the poor ones to better standards but is not published.

A local Doctor friend recently told me that Clinic in Hanley Rd came out okay on the list, 157 SGR didn’t. I think there is a practice in the Broadway in Crouch End that is also okay and scores well.

We have had children not that long ago and have used the Practice on the corner of SGR and Hanley opposite the Dairy which is okay and have had excellent service. The main Doctor is German (speaks great English) and is called Frank. Plays nice classical music in his room !

We had a few issues with our first son , febrile fits etc and have nothing but praise for the NHS around our way in the way it was dealt with. An ambulance turned up in 4 minutes after the 999 call with a crash team sorting him out etc. The after care at the Whittington was really really good. Only slight issue was the ambulance didn’t know the way to the Whittington so we had to give them directions !

i never realised so many of you had kids.

@ Andy - must be something in the water!

@ Lottie - congratulations! How exciting! Not sure about GPs, mine's crap, but I can't praise the team at the Whittington enough - our second pregnancy was hugely complicated and the consultants and their teams, throughout ante, post natal care and neonatal intensive care were tremendous. The midwives are a bit of a lottery, but I think that's the case everywhere, and there are some true gems at the Whittington.

Hi lottie, I'm at the stroud green medical clinic next to woody's. it's ok but i'd love to find somewhere with more doctors (there is just one there, he's ok) and a female doctor who's in more than once a week. however, when i was pregnant i dealt solely with the whittington midwives, didn't see my gp from my test result till my 6 week post-natal check!

can you join the vale if you are in stroud green? maybe i should check them out too.

    I can also recommend the Hanley Road practice - they have a number of doctors, good nurse and the nicest GPs receptionist I've ever met. Mine is Dr Laurino, who introduced himself as 'Michael' the first time I met him and I nearly fell over. He actually listens to you - a rare quality amongst London GPs. <http://www.nhs.uk/ServiceDirectories/Pages/GP.aspx?pid=5F763EEE-1BB2-4571-B008-5D429FCB2C6E>;

Just to say thanks to Giles and everyone for their comments! I registered with The Vale Practice this morning and the Dr saw me straight away - she's absolutely lovely, so I'm very happy now knowing that I'll have a good Dr throughout the pregnancy. Next stop is Whittington Hospital for the scan...!

Thanks for the info as I need to register too since moving into the area.

    Greenies? Cripes.

Let's nip that in the bid right now. The correct form of address is "upstanding denizens of North London".

    I like stroudents! Greeners?
  • edited 7:21PM
Stroudents sounds too much like students.
  • edited 7:21PM
Yup! I'm only a student for another week now (going to miss that 5% off at amazon) so I obviously need a new tag that makes me feel I belong to summat!

We can't have Stroudents. If we did I'd have to start listening to <em>That Fop Twat MorrisseyTM</em>
  • edited 7:21PM
Hey, i thought we established that I don't listen to TFTM? Ah, was just going to start a new thread on this topic! I've decided that whilst I dislike TFTM it is nothing compared to my hatred for the Manic Street Preachers (although not quite on a par with my loathing of Marti ********Pellow!)
