I was found as I was looking for info on an old department store that was supposed to be in the area of where the Chemist and Sainsburys is. Anyone know anyhtinmg about it
Dear all
The large store at the top of Stroud Green road was Hall & Co, a large drapery sore with very wide wooded counters on which linen and cloth were rolled out and measured . I can remember going into the shop many times always with my mum, no men to be seen, other than them serving , but can never remember her buying anything. This must be because I was so enthralled by the magic of the store and strange device that sent the spent money on wires above to a central till. Sadly the store never seemed to modernise and closed down sometime in the early seventies . Do any stroud greeners remember Williams bros grocers & David Greig's butchers & grocers. They had pull up front windows with brass handles as big as door handles. This must have been part ventilation part letting the customers see and smell the produce.
Merry Christmas to you all ( I known it's over.... a bit late sorry ) & happy new year.
@Arsenalred7 Which side of the road was the Halls drapery store on? I'm assuming the Mind Shop/Sunshine Café/Organic Food side (Haringey side, on the right as you head towards Crouch End).
Dear krappyrubsnif
Hall & Co was on the left going towards crouch end the it was approx four shop fronts wide next to Barclays Bank which was on the corner of Stroud Green & Hanley road I was a furniture shop afterwards
