Break in on Video Court Mount View Road

Today mid afternoon a burglar ripped the whole window with the window frame out and stole all high valuable items from my friends house. The worse thing is her flat mate was sleeping and the burglar walked in and then left sharpish when he realised someone was there, she was half asleep so didnt know what was going on. Very traumatic for them. My friend who lives there has been talking to the letting agent to fix the window for months and now this happens. <div><br></div><div>Laptop with a 3 months long dissertation on it and and 5 years worth of photos.</div><div>Police have been round to investigate. Hopefully they'll nail the asshole and send him away.</div><div><br></div><div>Try to lookout for one another people for anything that maybe suspicious...</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

    <P>If your friend used the auto-login features of websites (eg. gmail, facebook etc.) there may be a chance to locate the laptop. If the burglar was stupid enough to turn the computer on and start browsing on it, he could have used any of those websites. Or if there's Skype installed that automatically starts up and logs in once the computer is on. If so, the auto-login would bring up your friend's profile. As those websites can see (and sometimes store) the IP addresses of the visitors, they may be able to give a list of IP addresses from where the account was used. And then the police can use that list to get actual street addresses from the internet service providers (you can't).</P> <P>For example if you log in to gmail in the bottom right corner under the list of your emails you'll see a 'Recent activity' label and a 'Details' link. Click that and you'll see what I'm talking about.  <A href="http://www.whatismyip.com/">http://www.whatismyip.com/</A> tells you your own IP address so you can look at the rest.</P> <P>And yes, thieves / burglars are sometimes THAT stupid. They sometimes take selfies and post them on twitter etc. but if you have a particular app installed you'll also get a copy of that selfie. Have seen phones recovered like this, true story.</P> <P>Such apps are: Prey and Cerberus.
