Finsbury Park History - Campbell Road

Was flicking through the Internet looking at histories of London and came across this micro-history on Finsbury Park's no longer existing Campbell road: Campbell Bunk: The Worst Street in North London Between the Wars: The Worst Street in London Between the Wars https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0712636250/ref=cm_sw_r_api_5ddqxbHHNEM19 Anyone read it? Or have any other local histories they recommend? I see there are quite a few of Islington....

Yes, it is fascinating - was more or less where Playford Rd is now. Hornsey Historical Society has some excellent very local history books.

I have - years ago. There are traces of The Bunk left on the Six Acres Estate. I can't remember the detail, but it was quite terrifying - even the police kept their distance. A former resident of Charteris Rd Co-op used to reminisce about it, from his childhood, although he lived in Fonthill Rd, as a child.He and his pal, the famous war photographer, Don Something, were up to their necks in all the dodgy stuff, - in the 40s, I imagine. The Bunk was knocked down to build the estate, I think. Do read the book (written by an ex- Islington librarian?), if you get the chance.

After searching through this forum a little I also came across another book called "Boysie" by Tom McCarthy that's about the same area. Does anybody happen to have a copy of this by any chance?.... as it does seem to be in short supply....
