"Urban Native" Wholefoods 188 SGR

Do check out the new relocated Urban Native whole foods store at 188 SGR. I was very impressed when I went in there and came out with some wholesome goodies! It's a great addition to the area and we need to support these shops so try to go there rather than Sainsbury's if pos!!

It's great isn't it - I hope they retain the airy feel. I've gone off Ash's veg shop now as it feels so claustrophic in there.<br>

<p>Really? Ash has a brilliant range of stock in there now. Not just fruit & veg but a full range of organic and specialist whole foods. A much better offering than the shops that are advertising themselves as organic and wholefood.</p><p>Sad that people only want shops that are half empty when small businesses need to offer plenty of ranges (which take up space), to fulfil all their customer requests. Really is style over substance.</p>

It's a fine balance - Sportsdirect has loads of stock but I never want to go in there as everything is so crammed together.<br><br>The actual experience of shopping in this shop is infinitely better than Ash's.<br>

<p> If that's the way you choose where to shop you'd love the supermarkets in old communist countries. Cuba a fine example of very few products on shelves.</p><p>I'm comparing two shops, one of which has better range (at better prices) of the things you want to buy and is a well kept clean and tidy shop, with another that has less range and more space. I've actually never heard of someone choosing a shop because it has less to offer before.</p><p>Try Sports Direct in Oxford Street, I had to go there to buy wellies for Father Christmas last year and it is positively spacious!</p>

TESCO has more products than LONDIS on Ferme Park road, but I'd choose LONDIS every time because it's not like entering a JG Ballardian dystopia.

I like both shops and use them for different things. The new organic shop is a great improvement on the old, and feels a lot less cramped. Ash's stock range has been steadily increasing and the fresh produce is good and well-priced. I boycott Sports Direct! <br>

Never go to Londis, too far. I like Tesco at Piccadilly much better than SGR and their yellow sticker bargains are amazing.

I used to hate Tesco Stroud Green and have had some spectacularly poor customer service there, but I must say that it' s got a lot better in every respect...

We've been here before, I think: Tesco and its staff. A few are lovely; others considerably less so. I go there infrequently now. Back problems make Nisa, next to Gadz cafe, more convenient. Less choice; dearer; but the staff are really nice, when you get to know them. A propos, Miss A: where is Piccadilly Tesco in relation to St James Church? I used to go there regularly for a (free) lunchtime recital. The Caffe Nero next door was good, too.<div><br></div>

<p>It's on the corner of Lower Regent St. and Jermyn St., opposite side of the road to the back entrance of St. James' - conveniently located for the staff entrance of our shop. St. James is a great venue we use it now and again for events.</p><p>Let us know if you need anything collecting from Tesco Checkski, happy to oblige. Detritus can carry a heavy load. Agree on Nisa staff, they are very pleasant.</p>

Ash is also known as Stroud Green Fruit and Veg. <div><br></div><div>My favourite vegetable off all time is okra. It hasn't always been the best quality from there. I have found the Turkish shops on Green Lanes have better quality okra but I guess they sell loads of it. I am also amazed how many hours Stroud Green Fruit and veg is open. </div>

I always thought okra was an Asian specific vegetable as I had only eaten it in curry. I stayed with my friends mum in Crete and discovered okra Mediterranean style. Cooked with dill, parsley and olive oil with some fish/tofu is heavenly.

Yes, still stalls in St James' churchyard. That market has been running since at least the late 80s I think. A new thing is the street food market which is there on Mondays - Market Monday is our best lunch day at work, we buy different things and share it all. Brilliant fudge stall too.

Yuk, okra. I hate the texture. I like most vegetables (love them, even) but can't abide okra. So I can't comment on Ash's okra vs Green Lanes! (In any event, I never go shopping on Green Lanes as it isn't convenient). We are lucky that we have a few good grocery and fruit/beg shops which we can compare. i met a chum in the WB Yeats on Sunday; I'd never been there before. it's very nice too - I am not a frequent pub-goer but there are a lot of decent pubs around here too. <br>

I love the new Urban Native: seats in the windows, more products but more space with it so room to walk around, juice and smoothie bar, I could go on.

I shop at Urban Native more than Stroud Green Fruit & Veg for 3 reasons: better music, closer to home, and I enjoy chatting to the main guy there about all manner of random stuff.

Okra, what texture is there not to like? Lovely crunch. If you've only had slimy okra then I'd suggest trying it somewhere that cooks it better.
