Attack on communist Steve

Communist Steve (aka Stalinist Steve) set up his red flag and stall at the end of Hanley Road at fiveways this afternoon, opposite the Dairy.

He was attacked and his stall smashed up by some guy ('East European thug' according to my informant) this evening.

Anyone see it?

  • Oh, that is terrible. I don't concur with his communist views but he should be free to express them - especially with Jezza as our MP! Must be CCTV there?
  • Annoys me he blocks the footpath. Walked past at 8ish and all seemed fine
  • It was very upfront and in-yer-face, especially at that location, agreed.
  • Oh I am sorry. He's a lovely bloke, despite his peculiar views. Was he hurt? I do hope not.
  • Poor Steve. Hope he is ok
  • Has he reported it to the Police, I wonder?
  • I witnessed a little bit of this from the top deck of the W3. I suspect that the sight of someone wearing a Stalin T shirt might have been a little too much to take from someone from a former Soviet Bloc country. I heard Commie Steve shouting 'Fascist' at the (I think maybe understandably outraged) protester. If he (Commie Steve) wants to start the revolution from the corner of Stroud Green Road, only on Sundays, then that of course is entirely his choice. If people with a closer acquaintance to Stalinist Russia than he object to his Sunday politics, then he should probably take it on the chin.
  • You can't excuse violence Doug, especially not when it's targeted against someone because of their views (regardless of how deluded we might think that person is)
  • Absolutely agree with the Pigeon.
  • I didnt see any violence. I wouldn't excuse violence but I don't think there was any.
  • Was there any? His Stalin T shirt seemed to be perfectly clean this week

  • Errr, perhaps he has more than one t-shirt. Or a washing machine?
  • I am with Tesco Pidgeon, too.
  • When I wrote 'take it on the chin' I was of course using the phrase metaphorically and was not condoning violence. I didn't see any though. Reminds me of Citizen Smith

How many seconds did you see from the top of the bus?

Jeremy Corbyn reminds me of Citizen Smith. Bet he had one of those smelly Afghan coats and a Castro t-shirt in the 70s.

There seems to be two points being discussed here: 1. The original point. That attack on Communist Steve. I don't condone. Should we attack posh public schoolboys on the street because they have had special privileges? No. Like I don't condone a Eastern European violence at Steve because they didn't like the communist system. 2. People's views on Communist Steve. Yes he is an anachronism. A drunk who goes on about the benefits of Trotsky. Corbyn on the other hand is the kick up the ass Labour need. For better or for worse he's shaking up the party. I think it will be for the better in the long run.
  • Does he go on about the benefits of Trotsky? I thought he was a Stalinist.
  • Perhaps it's Stalin he goes on about. I've always avoided him. Never accepted one leaflet as I don't like his style. He still didn't deserve violence. I might be left wing but I'm more a social democrat than a communist.
  • I think he might be on this forum.......are you there Steve? Or are your ears burning?
  • A question to KRS. Can you use Olive Oil to clean wax from your ears?
  • He used to be on here, but if I recall correctly he got a bit upset when Andy questioned his repeated denial of Stalin's mass murders.
  • @kreuzkav welcome back you have been quiet for a while. Gently warm the olive oil and insert it in ear to soften wax. Best done a week pre war syringe
  • When i was in Kiev there were Stalinist protesters that lived outside in protest tents all year, it was minus 20 when i was there and minus 40 a couple of weeks after.

Communism is alright until you end up being Ivan Denisovich.

Corbyn on the other hand is despised as he is showing up champagne socialists for exactly what they are.
  • A shocking misuse of top quality oil like mine if you don't mind me saying so. Get some from Lidl.

BTW Krappyrubsnif's Stroud Green Olive Oil will probably be back this year after a couple of years of bad harvests. We are going out to harvest in early November, and if the price is right I'll negotiate a couple of hundred extra litres from other local artisan producers, and should be able to unleash it on SG in time for Xmas.
  • Prosecco Socialists round here
  • Prosecco is so 2010 Stroud Green. There must be something a bit more craft now? @ Krs. How about Tesco olive oil?

According to Which?, Tesco olive oil is good quality. Haven't tried it myself. You have to drink it to be sure, not sure how this relates to pouring it in your ears.
  • I don't know how it tastes, but it sounds great
