Highbury Arts Club

Has anyone been here?

I drove past last night and it looked like a lovely space, not sure why I've not noticed it before, i shall be going in the very near future.

THIS is what should be done with the Hopsmiths!

  • That is sooo cool - yes
  • That's an odd one. I rarely seem to pass when it's open, but it must survive somehow. Something similar would be a great fit for SGR.
  • This opens at 18.30 in the week according to the sign on the door.

Another place similar to this and something that SG 'definitely needs' is this place in Green Lanes i stumbled across the other day, they were ultra friendly in there, serve decent drinks and seem to be running it to be a decent venue rather than profiteering from burgers.

  • I'd love to get my hands on Riley's Emporium and convert that space into something similar. It's such a nice shop front when you take time to have a good look at it, and very cavernous inside.
  • Actually a refocused Hopsmiths could fit the bill - just needs someone to think about it as a NYC style speakeasy with good snacks food and cocktails along with innovative, hipster music or even better something a bit unusual - hillbilly opera anyone?
  • Jam in a Jar is very good, not at all pretentious. That's what I'd like in SG - a place where it doesn't feel like people are trying out a concept, or trying to reinvent the pub, burger, sandwich or whatever. Just a relaxed friendly place where you might happen upon something interesting. If I see one more school chair/filament light bulb combo I will do a Violet Elizabeth.
