Readers of this forum might be interested in contributing to the campaign to help New Beacon Books on Stroud Green Road, which was the UK's first black bookshop (founded in 1966), stay open.
I've shared this and donated a small sum. New Beacon Books is a critical part of the history of Stroud Green (as well as British black history, of course) and we should all help preserve it.
I came across a poster in a lift in a building I visited this morning advertising visits by New Beacon Books to the Canteen to sell books ala what the Book People do. Must be a new route to market !
Glad it's survived. And hopefully they'll become a bit more proactive, start having author events, readings etc from local writers. All the local schools do Black History sessions, etc. Beacon usually appeared to be closed half the time I walked past
