Does anyone know what's happening to what used to be the Plough on the corner of Tollington Park and Hornsey Road? Lots of blokes with high vis jackets and signs of major decorating.....
Because there are not enough people willing to spend the money probably because they don't have enough money or prefer not to spend it in pubs. So pub dies as cannot pay rent. Value for alternative use is greater....
The pub was fine / solvent, the whole building was sold for more than what it was worth forcing the family (sisters) who ran the pub out in the process.
As far as i am aware it was smoke and mirrors with the planning as usual and allegedly going to be re-opened as a restaurant.
The problem is that the residential space above a pub is worth so much money due to high house prices, but if you put flats up there, planning is difficult and people can complain about the noise below - so easier to force the pub closed.
The Plough seemed fairly busy when it was open.
Holborn Fox do you know what's happening with the Prince Alfred, on Marlborough Road?
Yes it is being renovated as we speak and will be a pub according to the new Landlord.
Not sure what that means exactly but I guess it means more corner flag then landseer.
Time will tell i guess, hopefully with the rooms upstairs it can be a going concern, would be a good opportunity in my opinion for coffee in the day giving way to beers during the evening.
