Help - open fires

Please help, we are so unsure what to do. Our neighbour has open fires most nights when the weather is fine. We mostly close the windows but as the weather gets hotter this becomes impossible. She has a new huge stash of wood in her front garden following a recent tree being felled in the street. Green wood = more smoke. What recourse do I have to stop this happening? It is making our nights miserable.

Have you asked them nicely not to do it? Explaining clearly and calmly why it is affecting your life?

Talk to the council? I thought there were restrictions on fires here.

Are they burning garden waste as they don't want to pay for its removal?

She is burning logs. A number of trees have been felled on the street and each time she asks for the logs to burn (and the tree surgeons oblige). The pile in her front garden is about half a metre high at present - we have that to look forward to all summer. Will the council take action? Given the threads on here about how they turn a deaf ear I am not hopeful.

Why is she doing it? Does not look like she needs fuel. I would let the Council know - smoke aside, sparkles may be dangerous, especially if you have, say, a wooden fence.

Looks like its not illegal, but they have a line to report it if it becomes a nuisance

Not sure how effective they will be though.
Call them, and get the other neighbour to do so.

But try talking to the neighbour first.

Does she ever burn anything else? I reported a bonfire to the council many years back because they were also burning something that smelt like rubber or plastic, and someone from the council was there within 4 hours.
