Hornsey Fire Station, Stapleton Hall Road

A chap posted this picture on Twitter. Supposedly a fire station on Stapleton Hall Road. I'm damned if i can figure out where it could have been. Any thoughts?

The coal office suggests it was near the old Stroud Green station, but it doesn't look like any corner by that junction as far as I can think. I wonder if it was mislabelled.

Looks like the wall of a bridge in the background. The two coal offices are a hint it is near the railway. One other thought it the higher up box structure could be SG station

The box at the top of the picture certainly looks like the old station buildings that over hung the bridge, as you can see some timber supports. I could be wrong but it looks like it could be where the zebra crossing outside the goods office, as I can only assume the road with the wall behind is Lancaster road. One other thing is that could explain the island that is still on the junction with Ferme park/ Stapleton Hall and Lancaster road.

I correct myself the fire station is on the junction of Lancaster road, I have found a photo from another angle which shows it to directly opposite the station house. I have included a link which takes you to the photo, it is on an ebay sales page so not sure how long it will be up for.

Well I'll be damned. Lancaster road was my first guess, but I decided it couldn't be that because the embankment isn't visible. It must be obscured by a trick of the angle. Good work chaps.

I don't think I've seen a close-up picture of that side of the bridge. There's a long-distance photo floating around somewhere.

The Christmas picture is interesting that the buildings to the right at the station seem to be much higher than the Station which I think like that today. Also in the middle of the station there seems to s spire or I'd that the fire station ladder?

This seems to date that the Coal offices are every the coblers was before that redevelopment

I think that the thing that looks like tall buildings on the right is actually part of the station on the bridge.

The spire is the old Holy Trinity church - damaged in the war and subsequently demolished. The current church is the former church hall.

The redeveloped coal office referred to in that Wikipedia article was on the *other* corner of Lancaster and Stapleton Hall, i.e. opposite the one in the picture that started this discussion.

Hornsey had its own fire brigade with four stations one in Wightman road one in Tottenham lane one at Highgate and last one in Conway road haringay . There were also “Fire escape stations scattered around the borough. These were large wheeled ladders that would be manned by volunteers when there was a fire the escape ladder would be pushed/ wheeled to the fire by volunteers. Later these ladders were placed perminatly on fire engines first horse drawn and the powered vehicles. Look up The Royal society for the protection of life from fire . Picture looks like one of these station located at the top of Lancaster road where it meets Stapleton hall road
