Rikki - I imagine the big drop in traffic is good for insects given how many vehicles can kill (if I half-remember a podcast on this topic from a few years ago correctly...!)
So many bees this year. This morning I had carder bees, banded white tails and red mason bees simultaneously show up on my balcony. And while watching them, a hummingbird hawk moth showed up - that's a first for me in London!
Yes, the goldfinches can be seen in the area. They used to come to our bird feeder. It's great that the wildlife is thriving. You can even hear the owl in the distance in the Parkland Walk.
I think the goldfinches come and go. I had a flock of 9 or 10 on my bird feeder not long ago, they seem to have scarpered, probably nesting out in the woods. Blackbirds are seasonal too, they ate all nesting locally now but for part of the year you dont see them because they are all on their holidays out of town - something to do with food I expect.
Working from home means some gazing time into the garden. This week I have seen Robins, Blackbirds, Magpies, Great Tit, blue tit, starings, sparrows, Jays, Crows, seagulls, wren, Goldfinches, Pigeons Have in the past seen a noisy woodpecker and thosey green parrots things. Quite a few foxes and grey Squirrel s around as well,. Also Frog's in the pond
Never seen any greenfinches or chaffinches in the garden. Glad the starlings are back. The swifts should be back in early May. I haven't seen any butterflies yet.

I hope people learn from this and we don't return to "normal".
