According to the 1939 register he lived with his wife Dulcie Doris at 54 Hanley Rd. He was a Foreman and she was a Machinist. Don't know what happened after 1939.....his wife died in 1998 in Islington. The mystery continues.....
The census was due to be carried out in 1941, but they held a partial census early, on the outbreak of war so they could issue ID cards and organise conscription and rationing. Consequently there was no 1941 census. The 1931 census records were destroyed by bombing, so the 1939 register is a crucial record of that period.
Can you access 1939 register (census) records? I thought they were closed for 100 years: therefore the last census year where records are online is 1911 - next year, when the 1921 census returns are made public, will be a big year for genealogists. No?
They released at least some of the 1939 register in 2015. Maybe because it wasn't an official census it was exempt, I'm not sure. Pretty sure it's on Ancestry, for instance.
