When taking the tube the other I was surprised to see some Picture house poster behind the glass next to the new entrance at the station. I though the plan was to get a cineworld? Anyone knows about it?
Have to say I would be much happier with a picture house
Picture House were in their unit before lockdown setting up. I noticed Boulangerie Bon Matin has taken a unit just past, and opposite Starbucks, on the corner of the new walk way to the station....
Was at the bus station at 1pm today. One of the hard hats - seemingly a supervisor - told me that the Wells Terrace route to the station entrance will open this afternoon. We shall see ...
That's a couple of minutes saved on my commute. It was quite the wind tunnel this morning and I had to give up on my umbrella, but then so is Goodwin Street I suppose. I wonder how long it'll take for the businesses to open. Not the ideal time for it.
This could be good addition with the possibility of out side drinking and dinning. The mural is I thought very good. The most appropriate tile is bottom right hand corner second one up.
So little excuse to go down there these days, but I must say I really like it now they've opened up the new streets and shops like Boulangerie Bon Matin and Rosa's Thai have opened. The tile mural thing is fantastic, and the public realm is really high quality. The area has changed so much it's hard to believe it. Looking forward to a post-Covid world where I can stare at it all from OakN4.
Re Jacula's comment above. The Cineworld/Picturehouse closure announced in October was officially temporary. According to Picturehouse's website, a 'brand-new seven screen cinema' will open... See
Tried Rosa’s Thai recently. Not bad over all, but their pad Thai was all the more disappointing as, if there’s one thing a Thai restaurant should do well…
@Scruffy, my recollection of Rosa's is that it's not bad - but not bad is not good enough when we have Granary and Rusty Thai nearby, both of which are excellent. The Granary corn cakes and Rusty's tom kha in particular are really exceptional.
Noticed a planning application in a unit window for Honest Burger - Corner of Fonthill road. Also an application next to BBM and opposite the Picture house cinema (opening spring) for a company called Lilly Three Limited...guessing it may be a bar...??
It is indeed a bar. The concept looks very interesting, some sort of blues kitchen kind of bar with live music and an interesting food menu. That is provided that the concept translates faithfully into reality.
M&S should go ahead. Last time I enquired directly to M&S (a month ago) they told me they would open late April.
The majority of flats have been sold, I believe almost all 1 and 2 bedrooms. Quite a few 3 bedrooms remain available and you can probably see the prices on the website. From memory, depending on when you bought (they’ve been selling off plan for years) I believe 1 bedroom flats started around £380k. This went up all the way to £600/700/800/900k for 3 beds, again depending on year you enquired and how big they are. Some 3 beds in the towers, with views etc. were more expensive. I understand the building that goes along Wells Terrace houses affordable homes (they fit the technical definition of “affordable” and therefore are only marginally cheaper).
First time seeing it in the flesh today. Obviously the timing wasn't ideal but the quality of finish is good and I was pretty impressed. M&S going in will be key but so much better to access the tube station this way.

Wells Terrace entrance looked almost ready to open when I passed by this morning but I'll believe it when I see it . . . .
