  • I have finally had a response from my local councillors about this. I am told that Haringey claim that the problem on their side of the road is fixed (it is not), so it seems a lot of buck-passing is going on here. On the Islington side, the probl…
  • As of today, nearly back where we were over Christmas. Several bedrooms. In other news, I emailed my local councillors (Finsbury Park Ward) last Sunday about this and none of the three have yet replied. Guess they won't be getting my vote nex…
  • The begging pitches might be gone, but beggars were definitely back just now. The only one that looked like a regular was the man holding a 'political protest' against bullying. He told me the other night he lives locally, and disapproved of the m…
  • Passed by at 01.30 this morning. As others have reported - the begging 'pitches' (for want of a better term) were empty. Earlier this evening, some of the usual suspects moving detritus across the street to the Haringey side. Is something afoo…
  • @miss annie The land registry is a easiest way to do it. The title will be held by the Burgers of the London Borough Of Islington or similar wording. Whisper me the number and I'll be happy to check. I never understood just how much of Moray roa…
  • No - Safer Neighbourhood teams are a Police team - typically Community Support Officers, a Police Constable and Police Sargent. They are ring-fenced for local, community policing duties. As far as I can tell, under the bridge is their patch. One …
  • Perhaps you could share with us what to look out for?
  • @Fabuce: I saw Islington's street patrol talking to the rough sleepers a few evenings ago. As for whether the encampment is illegal - probably: The Vagrancy Act 1824 can be used to prosecute it - but Police are generally reluctant to criminalis…
  • @grenners Begging on the railway (and for that matter, the bus station too) is a criminal offence. Those that are homeless do have some choices - and this ought to be one of them. It seems that the same bunch of beggars get moved on by the Police…
  • On the subject of Crisis, it's a lousy choice if you're giving money - they spend a mind-boggling 35% of their income on fundraising. By way of comparison, St Mungo's spends a tiny 4%.
  • Earlier, one of the 'bedroom's' inhabitants asleep across the pavement.
  • I reported the mess on the Islington side using the App and I got a picture a bit later on showing it cleared up. A fair bit of the rubbish is in the vicinity of the rough sleepers and beggars - whether they're responsible, or whether the cleane…
  • Enforcing the no-entry sign for southbound traffic would be a welcome first step, along with the no-waiting boxes at the two junctions. Taxis from the taxi office at the bottom of SGR being the worse offenders in both cases.
  • Finsbury Park Station and Stroud Green Road seem to become the go-to destination for peripatetic beggars (although there are few rough sleepers amongst them). The ungated route out of the station probably contributes significantly. The beggar …
  • Replacing the the cill and bottom of the box seems like a fairly common repair - no doubt because this is where water collects. Mine have all had this done to them at some time. I suspect the sashes themselves might well have been replaced severa…
  • Clissold Park is my preferred pool, H&I has longer opening, so I sometimes go there for convenience and occasionally I go to London Fields. Worth noting that a Better swim membership gets you into all of the pools they operate - so that's I…
  • @TheMimsy: so why isn't the safer Neighbourhood team dealing with it already? Are the beggars operating when the SNT are not?

  • Also sometimes at Highbury and Islington. I also think that it's not a coincidence, and is tantamount to fraud. Finsbury Park now has a bunch of regular beggars, who I suggest a doing it 'professionally' rather than from desperation.

  • Presumably not the pork though...
  • AFAIK there are either single or double yellow lines down much of the length of the street.   At least there is now a yellow box on the junction with SGR, and it's camera enforced.  Bet this will result in many tickets.

  • @checkski: The realistic pros of a change of control focuses the mind of local councillors.  There is none whatsoever in Haringey. Yes, I tweeted it.  However, I think I need to follow up with an email The taxis are routinely flouting the paring res…
  • As of late last week, the road is re-opened, with fresh double yellow lines the whole way and camera enforced no-waiting boxes. All looking very tidy. Some people still think they're special: It's time for Haringey to start enforcing this properly…
  • Welcome to the Peoples' republic of Haringey. A change of administration is long, long overdue (in fact, there's never been one in the borough's entire history).
  • Where is this to be seen?
  • Seems that the taxi drivers operating out of the taxi office on Stroud Green road, by the station have resorted to desperate - and somewhat illegal -  measures in order to park whilst Morris place is being reconstructed.  After taking these I got …
  • The work so far seems to be reconstruction of the pavement (which formerly included a cycle lane) on the west side of SGR under the railway bridges, and rebuilding of storm drain chambers and grilles across the highway.   Further up, outside Sainsbu…
  • If they do have a change of use, it will be on the Council's planning portal.  If not, it might be worth flagging with them.
  • @Ali - i somehow doubt it's a datacenter there - but yes, I'd imagine it'll be the entire block from Clifton Terrace to Stroud green road.  There have been a string of proposals to the replace the site of the carwash that were rejected on due to imm…
  • @Miss Annie: so do other charities working with the homeless, but they don't spend ~35% of their income on fundraising as Crisis does.   Judging from the full-page press adverts in just about every publication in the run-up to Christmas, I'd say it'…
  • The station staff have never appeared particularly concerned about begging going on at the Wells terrace entrance either - although the favoured spot with no CCTV coverage is now inside the gate-line and not so handy for a quick get-away.
