  • But why do it that way around @Arkady? What not build new homes that people earning £30000, £40000, £50000 a year can afford to buy. Then the chain reaction will work in the opposite way. The homes those people were renting will be available for the…
  • So some of the trees were removed because the inspector thought "their health and life expectancy could be reduced". Not that anyone qualified said their health and life expectancy would be reduced. Surely they should have been left for a future dec…
  • What is 'affordable housing' anyway? I keep hearing people say we need more of it but what is it?If, as I understand it is housing designed only for certain people within the community then I would say it is wrong. We don't need more affordable hous…
  • It seems like I'm on my own with regard to this development. While I am okay with the size of the building and how it sits in it's location and interacts with its surroundings I am bitterly disappointed with what I am seeing as dull, boring, old fas…
  • The problems with rent controls are how you set them. Inflation and interest rates change all the time. What is a fair rent today is unfair for one side or the other tomorrow.
  • Was the housing in Stroud Green not originally built speculatively by Victorian developers for the middle classes to buy and live in? If it is being 'gentrified' then it is only because it has slipped from it's original position. (trying really hard…
  • Can Stroud Green be gentrified? I've lived here for about 12 years and nothing much has really changed. It wasn't particuarly run down when I moved in.I can understand the Seven Sisters Road area the other side of the station or the area between Hor…
  • But if you are going to wait then please do so at the back of the platform. So annoying when people stand in the open doors even though there is room to get on.
  • And before Blair and Brown it was Thatcher who encouraged Council's to sell off their housing stock without building any new replacements.Apportioning blame at this stage is pointless. Learn from it and move on.
  • It's a virtual currency which some people are getting way to excited about.
  • When the new Victoria Line trains came along with their extra capacity and ability to run closer together and therefore have more trains per hour it did seem to get a little quieter but I agree since Christmas is does seem to have been getting busie…
  • I would also recommend @FourEyes, a thoroughly nice chap!
  • Are they totally ruled out or is it just hard surfaces (concrete or tarmac). The main issue besides aesthetics is rain water drainage, one of the big influencing factors in the increase in floods of recent years.
  • I think number 20 is an old Victoria Line train. The tube map at the back looks to have DLR on it, when was that brought in? The advert on the right might be Vitamin Water, not sure how long that's been around? It must be Friday, a bit of detective…
  • Sadly BT and Virgin are still the only real options. Everyone else still uses BT infrastructure from the Exchange to your home so any problem you have would likely still occur with another provider.
  • They usually have a front brake but there is no need for a back brake as you just pedal slower to slow down (or stop pedalling to do a cool skid!)

  • A fixed wheel, single speed bicycle. The rear wheel has no freewheel so the cranks move with the wheel meaning you have to constantly pedal. They are also known as 'track bikes' as that is where they originate from. Popular with cycle couriers in th…

  • No one else intrigued by the train engine on the road, with a clamp?Pics or it didn't happen!
  • How about plastic trees with urinals built in to the trunks while you're at it...
  • "flat above a shop in Upper Tollington Park" There are no shops on UTP!
  • Good to see Finsbury Park jumping on the last carriage of the 'German Christmas market' bandwagon!
  • I'm struggling with that drawing. On the left are those the manky buildings between Station Place and Seven Sisters Road? Those they are planning to keep? And as others have mentioned, what's with those horrible concrete framed buildings? Surely the…
  • Wasn't it the Lidl building that used to be a cinema, or were there two? Having read Thomas's link I have answered my own question!
  • Plazas are great in the summer but how long once the sun has gone would it take to be covered in chewing gum, fag-ends, bird poop and general litter?
  • If they demolished the buildings between the bus station and Seven Sisters where the Silver Bullet is(was?) that would give room for plaza and bus station.
  • Controversial! Pappagone above Porchetta and no mention of Hanna Maria or Firezza!
  • I was apprehensive the first time I went, it does look rough but it really isn't. Whenever I have friends visit we always visit Rowans for some bowling and pool, sometimes en-route somewhere else, sometimes we end up spending hours in there.I must h…
  • If it stays fun and relaxed I think I'll be up for this, not interested in any competitive roadie stuff though.Anyway I don't think I'll be able to do much until the new year. Will keep an eye on this thread until then...
  • It depends where you are referring to as Finsbury Park. The area south of Seven Sister Road and East of the railway line is still relatively 'cheap', North of Seven Sister Road and West of the railway line though is definitely not!
