Where can I get a nice desk?

I'm looking for a smallish nice desk, ideally wooden, for my spare room and am really struggling. All the usual furniture shops have versions that are too big and/or hideously expensive, and the Argos/Office World ones are too big and/or hideously ugly. Any suggestions gratefully received, especially for local-ish places that have more unusual stock...

Afternoon! Did you try that furniture place on the highbury corner roundabout? Well, just off the roundabout, the old Ford garage. It's got lots of Scandinavian style desks. Very funky, some of their stuff. What about some of the shops on Upper street - Castle Gibson or Oliver Bonas?

Def try the place at highbury corner - really interesting stuff to root around. they'll also take offers - i got a lovely sofa for a good price. they put some of their stuff on ebay <http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/thefurnituregarage>;

You might also try the 20th Century Modern classics place, Back in Time, down from Highbury Corner, not sure how many desks they get in though. Or there's a place a bit further along where I've seen old-school school desks

There's shed loads of nice places in Highbury. Are you in a super rush, or are you just trying to find something a point? Because a regular review of places in SG will reap rewards.

Thanks all for advice - I'm not in a hurry but it's already been almost a year since I moved in so I think I should get on with it! Which places in SG would you recommend, tosscat?

All of them. The stepping out shop has lots and lots of crap but very occasional gems, and the one opposite the Dairy is much the same. It's not a case of hunting high and low, just hunting very, very frequently.

You might also try the local Freecycle website, there's one for Haringey area. Always loads of desks being given away
