I can't find my paperwork, and my mind has gone funny What is the break/rest period between Council Tax payments? Feb? March? Do I need to stop my Direct Debit or will they take care of it? Cheers, matt

    Just called Contact Islington: direct debits are taken over 12 monthly payments, so there's no gap as there is if you pay it manually by cheque or whatever. So: no need to do anything

    We live on the Haringey side and are always having problems with the council tax people.

    We used to be on direct debit, but then they 'accidentally' took two extra payments out. I had to call them several times and wait three months to get a refund.

    So now we just pay by regular monthly bank transfer, always a few days before it's due. And they still manage to fuck it up. Every other month we get a reminder letter. When I phone them about it, they just say that it's a mistake.
