Sandy Beaches...

Can anyone recommend a sandy beach within easy reach? I'm thinking a day trip, probably by train... I really don't know this part of the world beyond the reaches of the underground network...

Camber Sands has lovely white sandy beaches, its a couple of hours drive or you can get a train I think.

Just for the beach or lovely walk around, lunch and things to look at? Whitstable is very nice for a day trip and I can recommend it for swimming, it's not the sandiest, but it's still very.

Nice seafood cafe in Whitstable - I remember getting seafood to take out to eat on the windy beach, sipping red wine from a plastic cup watching the waves! Those were the days.

I think the nearest must be at Leigh-on-Sea. From Crouch Hill via Barking you can get there in not much more than an hour.

I've always like the GOBLIN name for that train. The rail user group calls themselves the BGOLUG which just doesn't have the same appeal....

Yes we did. It was fantastic. Thanks again for the recommendation. What I particularly loved about Whitstable was the scale - everything is so close to the beach - chippy, takeaway crappucinos, decent loos in the arts centre (!). The sand quality was excellent too! Lots of shingle, but a nice fat band of sand to keep the little uns amused for hours and hours. Got any more recommendations?
