Stephen King 'Crouch End'

Crouch End, by Stephen King, 1980

Yes, there's definitely something odd about Crouch End, another world separated by ther thinnest of barriers from reality......

In “Crouch End,” read by Tim Curry, police officers Farnham and Vetter are working the night shift and are discussing the case of Doris Freeman, a young woman who came in to report the disappearance of her husband. Nearly hysterical, Doris’s story involves monsters and other supernatural incidents. Farnham dismisses the story as rubbish, but Vetter, who has worked in Crouch
End for years, is not so sure.

"Lonnie and Doris Freeman were left stranded in Crouch End. As they walked along the path, they heard strange noises from behind the hedges, and Lonnie went to investigate. He came back through, screaming for her to run, but they soon became lost and separated.

"Doris told her story to the local police, and it was said that Crouch End was separated from another world by the thinnest of barriers, one that was sometimes breached. The younger police officer investigated the disappearance, but was also lost between the worlds....."

If anyone's interested in Crouch End Cultural and Literary history, the 'Utter!' Spoken Word & writing group (Word for Word Wood Green) are doing a local guided tour soon... "Sat 6th June, 2pm, Hornsey Town Hall: MisGuided tour of Crouch End 2009! Off-Broadway production exploring Crouch End's literary & cultural history, the war between Islington and Harringey, a trip to another dimension and its lost alien civilisation, antifolk band David Cronenburg's Wife and pub & open mic afterwards, all for £5/3!" [Facebook event page](http://bit.ly/crouchend). Email: word4wordwoodgreen@hotmail.co.uk Why someone doesn't organise a Stroud Green cultural tour I just don't know. I bet Crouch End doesn't have a gibbetted pigeon.
