Old house-mates family stayed at Raglan Hall in Muswell Hill, think it was 'ok', though they were snooty Italians and hard to please. I don't know anywhere in Stroud Green, though there are a couple of places on Crouch Hill.
I have used the Aber Hotel on Crouch Hill 3 or 4 times for friends visiting from US with their daughter.. The rooms are OK, there's only about 8 but both the ones on ground floor are are big enough for family room and there's another huge room upstairs. Reasonably priced, friendly staff and breakfast is OK too - not full English but still plenty of it - there is a good garden too.. Has bus stops right outside and handy for Parkland Walk. The stairs to front door can be daunting though.

For comedy value you could try the <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186338-d583505-Reviews-London_Shelton_Hotel-London_England.html">Shelton</a> by Harringay Station
It looks so bad, with pizza menus in the window etc. Mad. TripAdvisor reviewers not pulling any punches right enough! Must be cheap as chips.
Talking of which, I always thought <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/DirtyHotels?nl=MU&pid=1595">this idea</a> was a neat promotional trick by TripAdvisor to drive traffic & interest...
