Best place is the World's End, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
This guy is a firm pal of mine who runs some of those nights, and if you're lucky you'll get to see him play: <http://www.myspace.com/lesterclayton>
You might even see me play sometimes.
Definitely make it down on 1 May, there's an anti-racism gig with an esteemed line-up.
i tried that place wasnt the friendliest place i thought i will check it out just spoke to the gov of the larrik aparently he has a singer/ kareoke thing on tomorrow night (thursday) and a 5 piece rocky band on friday night ............. now im torn between where to go
The WE used to have a bad reputation but I can thoroughly recommend it now. If you see a chap with a trilby and a crappy attempt at a Johnny Depp beard then come say hi.
I'm absolutely shocked that pellican has furnished us with this larrik related titbit. Oh wait...
Been meaning to give the WE a try on the music nights, it has looked pretty lively when I walked through a couple of times. Must try harder this summer.

am trying to find out an actual address. i think its that one opposite the main entrance to the tube, might have a different name at this point but some references to it on google.
being run by the people that run the hideaway bar in tuffnell park/archway
If memory serves there's the outline of a sign saying 'The Silver Bullet' above the Gaslight - I figured it was a former name. If they could do something cool with that place I would be very pleased, it's a shithole now. If it's the folks from the Hideaway then that's a very good thing - I've played there a few times and they run a good night. My only criticism was that they charged the people who were playing to get in!
A
Hopefully the talented fellahs from the Hideaway will be able to do something with the Gaslight (currently the worst pub I can think of) to make it visitable. But a temporary ‘pop up shop’ does not suggest much investment in the décor.
Sorry to hear about Sunday night. I noticed a new promotion on Saturday involving bands and comedians but couldn’t make it down.
'nasty little dive' is a fair description of the Gaslight as it stands, but sometimes new management can totally change a pub for the better. Hell, I remember when the Noble was still the world's most unwelcoming-looking gay pub.
@Misscara, The Noble fka The Flag was 'interesting' in it's gay days. You used to have to buzz on the door to get in, and on some nights they used to turn off the lights and there was cargo netting all over the place...(Get the idea!)
Yes I remember the Noble in its previous incarnation "the Flag". Not exactly unwelcoming but... Well... You had to ring a buzzer to get in. They showed hardcore gay porn -- and I mean hardcore. Suits me fine, but admittedly, it's a bit "niche".
Only been in Park Tavern once and got abuse from some daft drunk Irish pensioner because I have a Glaswegian accent and he assumed I didn't support his team. What a dick.
Hardcore gay porn places tend to do fairly well once they've established their particular clientele and can attract people from all over town plus home counties. It's probably the location (tube to FP + bus journey/longish walk) that ruined it for the Flag, or maybe it was just not very good?

@Arkady, is the trilby a permanent feature?
Here's a picture of him in a hat. You're welcome.

As a bar it's grim (it's the Gaslight, isn't it?), but was friendly enough.
Stumbled in there on way to Emirates last pre-season - only open on match days now so that pretty much says all you need to know about it at present.
