Tescos deliver - if they feel like it!

edited July 2010 in Local discussion
I thought I'd share my experience from last Sunday: I ordered a load of groceries for a Germany/England + birthday party bbq. Having paid a premium for a specific delivery slot, giving myself time to prepare, ready the garden, marinade the meats, chill the beers etc. the delivery driver decided it was too much trouble and never turned up. I can only imagine that he liked what I had ordered and thought he would have his own bbq. Well I hope he chocked on it! In one fell swoop he ruined my lovely sunny Sunday, the football, my first bbq of the season and my friends birthday not only for me, but for all my guests. Needless to say I'm broadcasting the episode as far and wide as I can. I feel it my duty to point out the delivery habits of nobody's favourite supermarket retailer to my fellow SG.org-ers (is there a collective name??). I complained to Tesco's "customer service" (HA!) and asked for his head on a plate. They refunded my order and the delivery charge (gee thanks) and gave me a couple of Tesco's vouchers - although I don't want those idiots anywhere near my house ever again (although they probably wouldn't show anyway). btw, the calls I placed chasing my order were "at local rate", which really got my goat, so got them to refund this as well. I was so angry I complained to Watchdog. Anyway I'm now on a one-man mission to bring down Tesco - £5 voucher by £5 voucher!

Brilliant! On the subject. I wonder how the butcher up towards Japan Crescent feels about the Sainsbury's opening up at Woody's old premises.

He'll probably feel rather good about it, as the Sainsbury's Local won't have a butchers, and from the few drunken excursions into Woody's, I think there was some sort of butcher offer next to the scary sheep. Unless that was the point you were making in the first place, in which case nothing to see here!

I like the advert for Tesco home delivery on the left hand side of this page, nice one Google.

never had a problem with them myself, in fact they're usually early, generally polite and helpful.

Hell bent on world domination they maybe but the home delivery does for me...

I say the same about Ocado - they're great, but I'm sure they'll get it wrong one day.

I've never used any supermarket home delivery service myself, because I live about five doors up from Tesco, but whenever I'm round at a friend's and they get a delivery, without fail the supermarket - whichever supermarket - fucks up. At best, something where they've ordered multiples to take advantage of an offer has been replaced with multiples of a more expensive, non-promotional item. At worst, vegetarian sausages have been substituted with meat ones. Then there was the time they left the security cap on the gin for a friend who, fortunately, had his hacksaw out anyway for DIY purposes.

I've used the Tesco delivery service a few times and it's always been reliable. Ordering for delivery on the day of England vs Germany was probably always going to be a risk. You just know that some of the drivers are going to take a sickie or skive off.

    Hubbub are also very reliable.

Ocado left the security tag on my vodka once but it didn't stop me. Ocado are usually brilliant, Tesco pretty good. I used Asda for the first time last week and they were 5 hours late without bothering to call. When I phoned them they merely said 'oh yes, all our deliveries are late'.
