Where should I go for my birthday?

The only reason I am asking is I never go out so I have no idea where is good locally. However I am going out tomorrow night and I don't want to end up in La Porchetta. Am prepared to venture as far as Highgate, or as far south as Highbury (forget going east). I want a decent meal and a decent cocktail. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't want to end up La Porchetta either. Banners in Crouch End is ok. Cocktails can be a bit hit and miss. Had two White Russians that were completely different one evening. One I think was just Baileys! If there's just two of you, you tend to get put on the table just outside the loo. St James do good cocktails, bit pricey, not had the food there though. Villiers do nice cocktails, the food looks good, but is a bit boil in the bag/heated up stuff. Sorry I'm not helping much.
