Sorry but it's all about PES6 thats released on friday,

i think i may have to take a week of work...................

I'm going for FIFA07. it's all about playing people you know online. I play my brother in ipswich and an old friend in bristol. andy you next. PES may be technically better, but FIFA has atmosphere and is loosely playable after 6 pints. PES is for people who like to beat the machine.

The new FIFA is rocking. PES has lost its way.....

for me PES is the connoisseur's choice of football games:

i grew up playing Fifa but was persuaded by some friends to switch allegiances a few years ago....the online gamings pretty good aswell..... i i'm not sure about enjoyng beating my machine though............ummm sounds dangerous ;)

Can I come round and play?

Welcome danny, I think it's undisputed that PES is the connoisseur's football game. I just question it's place amongst the drunken 30 something crowds that couldn't give a toss about the new move and just want to somehow beat the other drunken guy in front of them. For that, over many later nights with my bro, we've found FIFA the more light-hearted and more enjoyable. I suppose it's down to how serious you want to get. Me? I'd rather watch my football down the pub, and wing it on the PS2 later, rather than get serious on the computer moves.

Real football gaming fan play Sensible Soccer
    <img src="http://amiga.nostalgie.free.fr/disk/simulation/screenshots/sensible.jpg" height="40%" width="40%">

Pixels beat this photo-realism nonsense every time

i used to be a football coach and so maybe thats why pro evo appeals to me,

and i whole heartly agree though, the greatest football game of all time was SWOS on the Amiga.

Ahhh a mispent youth......hours fiddling with my joystick till the early hours trying to curl one in from the corner,

My dad was a football coach. He wouldn't have Thierry Henry in his team because _"he's lazy"_. And that team was Rio, for the Tollgate in Chadwell Heath. They did have AC Milan like shirts though.

*...amongst the drunken 30 something crowds that couldn't give a toss about the new move and just want to somehow beat the other drunken guy in front of them....* who could you be talking about? Sensible Soccer was ace. There was a curling cross from just inside your opponent's half that you could meet with a flying header (if your formation was set up right) that was unstoppable.

Myself, my brother, my friends. Apologies Andy, I forgot you'd slipped into that age bracket. didn't mean to speak on your behalf.

argh! i have stumbled into sports hell, in the review section. grumble, grumble. Still the title should probably have given me a clue!

Well just played my first three games. Couldn't stand it. But then I haven't played for quite a while and was reduced to losing a man per petty tackle. Generally didn't make half time before having too few men to carry on. The AI does seem really good on it. My growing reticence to apply myself to a game is, I think, perhaps proof I should be looking at Lego Football Mania, or perhaps Chuckie Egg. I probably need a good few hours play to get even remotely back in the swing of things, its been that long. I am though, very good at defensive headers.

Oh and I must change my default Arsenal squad. It's just horrible seeing Cashley in red and white.
  • edited 8:38AM
That said, Thierry Henry is ten times better than any other player in the game. Walcott is good too -i don't know why the default team starts with adebayor
  • edited 8:38AM
I wish he would in the real world too. Van Persie is good, but he's definately an impact player, not a team player. Adebayor free's up Henry and actually makes it worth us taking corners and stuff as he does the unthinkable and jumps up in the air and tries to hit the ball with his head. Rumour has it, this is called a header, but Wenger isn't convinced.

Footballer book sales, as of october 15.

    1) Gerrard by Steven Gerrard: 76,459
    2) My Story So Far by Wayne Rooney: 36,973
    3) Totally Frank by Frank Lampard: 26,662
    4) Rio: My Story by Rio Ferdinand: 7,651
    5) My Defence by Ashley Cole: 3,128.

Now, assume Ashley makes a fiver a book, then 'my defence' has made him fifteen grand. Hardly worth bothering, was it?

Just forwarded this to Camilla, she reckons he's probably on something closer £2 a book. That makes me happy.

har har. if we get a pb shout out can we be the stroudgreen massive?

ok, so looked at the controls and you were right. I was on some digital rehash of the basic settings. Basically what was a shot became a pass and vice versa and conservative takles become death blows. Much improved now, can takle without beheading the opposing player and gameplay is definately improved on previous offerings, and although it'll be different one-on-one, the midfield is a bit non existent, you can just pass through it pretty much unchallenged. all the pressing seems to happen in the final thirds. i like though. double bonus is i aslo got it online last night and it updated arsenal ridding us of Cashley and replacing him with Gallas. Very good.

I can't work out whether this should be 'sport', 'general chat', 'eugenes lair' or 'tv,film, music, youtube'

    Torn between my own categories....
  • edited 8:38AM
definitely shouldn't be on my radar! That should narrow it down a bit.
  • edited 8:38AM
    eugene's lair

i point out that you are playing a digital version of what a lot of people do outside.
