Jamboree Closure

edited September 2011 in Local discussion
I'm really saddened to hear that despite huge opposition (online & written petitons and formal consultation) it looks like Jamboree Play Hut will be closing at the end of September. It seems that Haringey Council is unable/unwilling to continue funding this local resourse for parents and their children now that it has stopped the extended services grants for children. This means that not only will families living around the Finsbury Park area no longer be able to access the information, support and childrens play facilities available here but a Haringey Council/Capital growth/Transition Finsbury Park funded growing project will no longer be accessible to the community. What a waste. We will have another boarded up neglected building and another part of Finsbury Park abandonded and untended. We have had a tremendous amount of support in our attempts to keep the centre open including a number of supportive features in local media but it seems that part of Jamboree's success has actually been its down fall - its location in the Park, on the border of three boroughs means that no one wants to take responsibility, despite the fact that its location means that it is very accessible to a very diverse mix of people, & representative of the local community.

just received this: Dear Parents/Carers The recent consultation with you has shown the high value parents place on the services that have been running from the Jamboree Play Hut. However as you will be aware Haringey funding for services from the Play Hut has been cut and it will not be possible to continue running any services from the hut after September 30th. In the meantime Council Officers are urgently working with the Headteacher and Governors of Stroud Green Primary school to try to establish a self financing plan to continue running the Treetops breakfast and after school provision from the school site and explore the possibilities for running drop-ins. It is with great regret that we have reached this position. Yours sincerely Ros Cooke (Head of Early Years) and Denise Sewell (Headteacher Stroud Green Primary School). My question is does also mean that Treetops and breakfast and after school club is still at risk ?
