Yes. The have planning permission to build an extra recessed story on the top. This will involve a new fire escape on the lower flat roof, which will be hidden behind a green wall.
The (pub chain) landowner actually sold off the top floor of the building for apartments some time back, which has made building the new floor vastly more difficult and expensive than it otherwise would have been.
The World's End has reopened after a refurb. A very nice job, with a tasteful repaint and lots of old photos of the area, many of which I hadn't seen before. New floor tiles, seating, etc. A wider beer selection too.
Most importantly they have utterly gutted and refitted the gents, which used to be horrendous.
Someone from Enter Shakira appears to be DJing on NYE.
Why would anyone want to chat while a band was playing?
A man just came in complained that they no longer do Fosters. Sometimes it's the small things that really dog-whistle big changes.
Very annoying like the dairy you can have two ppl in there wanting a quiet drink or snog and they turn the sports TV up LOUD. What for ? Bar staff can't be arsed.
Chang
Anyone know what's going on with the World's End? From the scary signs I assumed that they had had a problem with falling masonry (which doesn't surprise me, it was in a terrible state and they chose not to fix it when adding the new floor) but the scaffolding has been up for an age without any sign of actual work happening.
So I asked what the scaffolding is all about. Apparently the people who built the new upper story did a shoddy job, and bits of it were falling off onto customers in the street below. The scaffolding went up both the fix the problem and to protect the punters, but nobody has come to do the repairs.<div><br></div><div>Also, for those who care about such things, I was reminded that the pub is actually owned by Green King.</div>
