Il Piccolo Diavolo

edited November 2011 in Local discussion
<P>Mare et Monti has been closed for a month or so.  Had anybody else even noticed?</P> <P>It re-opens this weekend as Il Piccolo Diavalo.  It looks exactly the same as before.</P>

  • It has done that before, as La Tavernetta, with checkered table cloths and staff wearing some kind of uniform. I was quite flabbergasted back then and started an exciting thread on here. I think La Tavernetta only lasted for one week or so before going back to Mare e Monti. Fascinating stuff.
  • Pedant's corner.  It was Mari e Monte.

  • Pedant's corner again: in that case it should have been 'Mari e Monti' <div><br></div><div><br></div>
  • @Mirandola - quite right.  In that case, perhaps the owners were not as Italic as they claimed to be.

  • I like the idea of a race of people who come from Itslia.   You get new countries every day.
  • Thanks Gardener-joe, Looking forward too see you again. Ciao

I agree with Gardener Joe, this is a really good place now.  I've just paid it a visit.   Much more welcoming than the old Mari e Monte, warmer and pleasanter all round, excellent pasta, and the owner is very friendly and speaks Italian to all his customers.   I may well move my Italian revision classes there.   Recommended.
  • Does the name really mean 'The Devil's piccolo', and if so, is that as euphemistic as it sounds?<br>
  • Is it not 'little Devil'?
  • edited January 2012
More likely little demon is closer since il diabalo - the devil - surely does not have a diminutive form? Or, if it has a specifically satanist usage forced on it it would maybe be better translated as 'the infant devil', although I fell pretty sure thst in all mythologies the devil has no childhood.
  • Il Diavoletto?  il Diavolino?  Cara Mirandola per favore?
  • devil's piccolo sounds far more amusing though.
  • @ Krappy,<div><br></div><div>'Piccolo Diavolo' or 'Diavoletto' both work as  'Little Devil'. </div>
  • Ciao, I saw the curiosity about the name of the restaurant, so, I would like to say that it really means<div>the little devil as some of You have guessed, it may be a bit euphemistic, may be to describe the food we prepare, but anyway that is up to You to say and not us,<div>and then the name was also inspired by a famous movie by Roberto Benigni with Walter  Matthaus of several years ago. </div></div><div>Ciao Ciao</div><div><br></div><div>Ps  All of You are always very  welcome to come to visit us.</div>

  • Where is this place?!! I need to go. Valentine's is coming and it sounds ideal for a warm up meal . Chang
  • Hi! The cafe' restaurant Il Piccolo Diavolo is in my aerea, 11Crouch Hill N4 4AP, just after the Old Diary.
  • Hi, me and my wife have been to Il Piccolo Diavolo a few times because it's at the end of my road, and WE LOVE IT!! The prices are good value but what we like about it is the people who own the restaurant make a big effort and it's got a lot more of personal vibe that the big Italian restaurants on Stroud Green Road like La Porcetta etc. Have been to Italy a few times and Il Piccolo Diavolo seems very authentic to me!<br><br>
